Male or Female?

 I like girls, because I like being blown off. Right now, I'm in the computer chair. Girls are across the room, lying on the couch. They don't care that I'm not touching them. Boys in my breed of choice tend to be a lot snugglier and "up your butt". I need to have that blown off time.

That said, I may end up with a boy, if that is the pup in the litter that meets my needs. Nothing is absolute, and an independent boy is much better than a clingy girl, LOL.

For me, it's more about personality and does the dog get along with my current dogs.

My first dog ever was a female, I chose her...but I was only five.  Then my second dog was Buster, male, my dad chose him for me.  Then my DH had Max and Lady.  I brought Benny home and now Finn.  So, it seems as though, I lean towards the males.  Hopefully my next will be a female, however if another male falls into my life, I won't be sad.

I love my boys, but I've also had girls that still have a place in my heart... I'll probably lean towards boys but honestly I think I'll just end up with whichever sex falls into my lap again, lol.

LOL...I guess I like an audienceeverywhere I go as all of my males are the "up my butt" type. 

For me if I can, I'd go with a female dog. Alot of it depends on personality though. I wouldn't turn away a male dog with the right personality, but if a female had the same personality I wanted I would pick the female dog instead. I agree that male dogs seem to be clingier. Rickards follows me absolutely everywhere. Where as Skyline is more independant. I'm sort of in the middle of those two, sometimes I just want my space, while other times I love a good snuggle. For my next dog though I'm going strictly on personality of the dog not the sex of the dog. Just whoever is a better fit for what I need. I will say though there are certain things about male dogs that frustrates me. For one, I hate that some male dogs mark and hump everything. Rickards is better now that hes neutered, but it drove me crazy for a year. I know some females dogs can mark and hump too, but it seems more common for males to do that.

 Marking and humping are both training issues, though. That can be fixed:) Mine still hump toys (because I let them) but neither marks or humps humans or dogs. Jewel came to me a super marker, and both were mega humpers. Consistency (and panties, for the marker, til she quit the habit) worked, in time.

Ya I tried everything with Rickards including belly bands and nothing worked for that guy but neutering lol. I just think that him living with his past owner with obviously no effort to train him made it harder for me because he was already 1.5yrs old. Training did not work with him at that point. So its sort of left a bad impression on male dogs in general for me, because it was so hard to deal with 

 I had a different experience, LOL. Jewel was 8, unaltered, and a hardcore marker in a house with another dominant bitch. She learned, before she was spayed, that marking indoors is unacceptable. She still marks outside. Maybe boys are tougher, or maybe it's an individual thing. If I end up with a boy, he will not be altered, so I could be in for a shock, LOL.

 I prefer males, mostly because all of my dogs have been males. I almost got a female dog once, but we ended up with Simba instead. There are some breeds I'd rather have as a female just because I've met those breeds in that gender. If I was looking for a dog, I might lean more towards males but the personality is what it comes down to for me.

I had both up until recently (my female passed away last month at 13.5 years old) and I can honestly say that they are totally different.

 Both my dogs were GSD's and I can honestly say that my female was much more serious, independent, learned things more quickly, took her "job" serious and had an excellent temperament. She was very friendly but not outgoing, had a silly side but only with those she trusted and knew, she would work until she bled if we let her.

 My male, Stark (who is also just a youngn' so take it for what it's worth) is definitely more goofy, more easily distracted, will work but could be doing something more important, he is very dependent on me and is just a silly boy.

 For my purposes (working/sport dog) I think a female has the temperament I desire and the attitude I like but I am seriously loving my male. It's hard choice and I don't think I can actually choose! Can I have one of each?! ;)

I've always preferred boys. I like clingy - but both my boys know when it's time to back off and give me my space. They aren't allowed in the bathroom, unless I invite them in. That same rule goes for all my fosters too... I don't need help in there!

That right there pretty much says it all for me! My girls have perfected the art of flipping me off. It makes life interesting and challenging.

(Yes, I know Jackson's a boy... I wasn't dumb enough to bring another female into the mix right now. That's way too much managing to prevent fights...)

 All of the female dogs that I've had have been pretty competitive and bitchy. The males tended to be more laid back forgive and forget types. So, I prefer males, but somehow i end up with more females than males
