What type of collar do you prefer?

Brownie- I use a blue leather buckle collar for walks and such and a slip lead for training.

Cuddles- I use a black snap collar for walks and a slip for training. She NEVER pulls and even if she did, she would stay close to me if she broke a snap.

Lion- I use the collar Chelsea made me! Its a beautiful buckle collar with his name on it. I use a choke chain for training and sometimes on walks.

They all go nekkid at home.

    Buckle collars.

My friend's pitbull was tied to a tree and decided to take off after a cat - at the end of the rope the collar snapped clean (the dog didn't even slow down a bit).

After that I decided I would only use buckles with my guys lol.

They usually go naked in the house (unless we have guests).

For walks we use a slip collar for Luna and a prong for Gotti.

I'm a fan of the big thick collars a lot of bully dogs wear- just a personal preference! But I wouldn't make my guys walk around all day with those big collars, just doesn't look very comfortable...

Cleo wears a rolled leather buckle...but honestly my preference is none. When we walk the hounds they're on a nylon buckle. When Cleo is walked it's on a one piece collar/lead combo Mendota up behind her ears.

For walking a choke. Otherwise just a buckle.

When I do use collars I'll use whichever is handier for me.  I've got several buckles and several snaps.  I'm not picky when we use them so like I said...whichever is handier!

Max has a snap collar and he also (thanks to Bugsy Big Smile) has a pretty *holiday* buckle collar.  He has a collar on all the time because if someone comes to the door, I need to be able to hold onto hm with something so he won't be out on the front porch trying to lick someone to death. He usually wears a bandanna too.

Nylon buckle collar all the time; walks on a nylon harness due to a bad neck.  To get the funky smell out of the nylon I periodically soak it in a mixture of baking soda, vinegar, and Dawn dishwahing liquid for at least an hour, then hand wash it in the dog shampoo to remove the vinegar smell.  Works great!

Lexie wears a nylon buckle collar.  Greta and Sadie both have snap collars.

Because my dogs are older and very calm I use the snap collars. If I had stronger dogs that tended to pull a little I would use a strong buckle collar. Snap collars make me nervous on more powerful breeds.

I have the White Pines limited slip collars for everyone because they're really strong and they don't break off the coat.  I used a snap collar once with the big dog on a tieout and he broke it.  For agility and rally I use snap collars, for the shows they have chokers, and when I need to I use a halti.  The old lady wears a harness when we go walking because she can't have pressure on her neck or she ends up at the chiropractor with partial paralysis.  For most training they just have their normal White Pines collars.

I have many different collars for Stark. I choose which one I want to use depending on what we will be doing.

For everyday walking around the neighbourhood I use a martingale or his buckle collar.

For training I use a prong collar with a martingale as security (attach the leash to both).

For playdates with other dogs (we do this nightly) he wears his breakaway collar with 2 D-rings for security while walking.

When he is at home in the house or in my parents yard, he is naked.

I just got him a fursaver collar which I have used on walks but he is still young and will lunge at squirrels so I don't feel very safe having that alone on just yet.

I have fallen for the White Pine limited slip collars. No buckle to weigh it down, or bother their necks, and SO safe on their skinny, little necks! Bean's crest is growing back, where it was shredded from her cotton fabric collars.

I like the snap collars.  Dahlia doesn't wear a collar around the house, so it's easy to put on and take off. She's not a puller and even if she did get out of the collar, she's brilliant off leash so it wouldn't be a problem (I have, in the past, walked her home 15 minutes or so off leash while walking the neighbor's dog home who got loose yet again).

A prong is not a bad thing, as long as it is used properly - which it sounds like you are doing.

And it is, in fact, much more humane than using a choke anyway.  I prefer not to use either, but if I had to choose I'd choose a prong over a choke.

Shep, Baby, and Josie go nekkid unless leaving the house, then they wear buckle collars. Arlo is a "bolt out the door" dog so he wears his buckle collar 24/7. Thankfully he doesn't also try to slip out of a collar like some dogs do. For a walk he has to wear his Gentle Lead, though. (and his buckle collar as well just in case) Daisy is new to us, I was told to never ever trust her with a collar. She came with a choke chain and I thought, "oh sure, but I'll put the collar on firmly, I'll make sure doesn't go over her big ol' ears. Within 5 minutes she was out of the collar, something had startled her and with a flip of the head she was out. THANKFULLY she came to me all scared, hiding behind me, but that is the last time I will risk it. I'm going to look into the collars some of you have mentioned. (martingale?) and also I am going to look into a harness for Daisy but being a bloodhound I'm afraid she might drag me and on the choke she is an angel. (I don't ever have to pull or jerk the choke, if she goes ahead of me a bit she responds to the slow closing of it, she's really good.)
