If you were to choose a trainer.....

If you were to choose a trainer.....

I'm in the process of developing my business plan as a dog trainer. The latest project has been coming up with a valid business name - one that everyday folks will actually be drawn to. It's easy when you're immersed in it like I am to lose sight of what the general public would see, so I thought what better place to ask about possible names than other dog lovers!!! Big Smile

Below is a list of possible names I'm considering calling my business. I would love for people to give feedback on those names. By feedback, I mean what names you do and don't like - and why. I want to know what it is that makes a name stick out, or on the other hand what turns you off from it if there is one you just don't like. In other words, if you were to search online or look in a phone book which one may be the first to catch your eye?

    The names are as follows:

    - Sit Happens
    - Courteous Canine
    - The Modern Dog
    - Canine Connection
    - Both Ends of the Leash

Any and all feedback would be great, and I will value all honesty that is presented!!

I really like "Courteous Canine" because it's pretty self explanatory for the general public.

I like "Sit Happens" because it's very cute.  I just don't know that I would be willing to train at a facility with that name.

My favorite is probably Both ends of the leash - Courteous Canine is second

Courteous Canine.  I do like Sit Happens, but the general public will always snerk at a name like that.

I used to work for a company that helped people develop business plans for small businesses.  It's amazing how many will start a business with no real planning, which of course is a fast way to fail.

Sit Happens;  Good sound bite, but one slur away from a phone accident

Courteous Canine ;  Shows the outcome desired, perhaps connected to "Training"

The Modern Dog;  Doesn't create a picture of a training program.

Canine Connection;   Good. Training does build a connection

Both Ends of the Leash.  Creates a good mental image.

Understand I am coming at this from the male viewpoint.  If I want a hardware store, I like the business name to include "hardware ", if I am shopping for food, I want the business to have "Grocery" in its name.

I'ld have to say my fav is "Both Ends of the Leash".  It just sounds right for some reason.  My second pick would be "Courteous Canine"...makes sense as a name.  "The Modern Dog"....doesn't work for me as far as a business for a trainer.  I love "Sit Happens" but like Amanda was saying I'm not sure how some people might react to this.  It wouldn't bother me any but you know how some people are.  "Canine Connection" sounds a little too obvious.  Don't ask me to explain please.

    Others....hmmmmm

Great ideas though.  A lot better than what most would come up with.

    Good luck.

I love Sit Happens, personally, but it is one bad day away from being a less cute nameBig Smile

I like Courteous Canine, the best, I think, for a business name. It's catchy enough, but it sounds more like a business name. My mom agrees, and said she'd take her (nonexistant) dog to Courteous Canine before the others.

I like Sit Happens, but most people wouldnt respond as well haha :)

I like Both Ends Of The Leash.

Thank you to everyone for your input thus far!!

I like Both Ends of the Leash, too.  Courteous Canine is great, but there's a very well known trainer here in the US who already uses it.  If you Google Sit Happens, you will find that it has been very overused, and I would rather see you choose something that will pop your  biz to the top when people Google it;-)  Of course, that's what meta tags are for...

Since I'm in Canada, there shouldn't be any issue at all but I would find that out when I did a registry search. But thank you for letting me know that, I do appreciate it!

I googled these names and it seems like the only one not used or over used for training businesses is The Modern Dog. I do agree that doesn't really jump out as a training business. The Modern Dog Trainer? Modern Dog Training? I dunno. Out of them I like Canine Connection best. I'm not sure how much it matters if the name has been used or not with dog training businesses, since they tend to be local or regional. Sit Happens though for me seems a bit worn and I find it overly cutesy. I think Courteous Canine is a bit cutesy too, although not too bad.

I LOVE 'Sit Happens'... But, as others have posted, it may not appeal to everyone. My next favorite is 'Both Ends of the Leash'.
