    Visits to the vet

How does your dog react to going to visit the vet?

My poodles enjoy going.  They love the different smells and they enjoy going up to greet everyone.  Jazzy hates going.  The minute the vet goes to do something she is leary and scared.  We have ended up having to use the muzzle on her.

My daughter's dog HATE the vet.  You have to drag him through the door and then he just slinks and cowers the whole time in the waiting room. He likes the vet himself, just hates the 'place'.  And he really hates that darned metal table and the scale.  (I understand the scale part of it!!  Stick out tongue)

Emma is always worried they're going to "do something" to her. She's had a rough time, and been through a lot of painful procedures. If she's in major pain, I have them knock her out, to prevent the fear and stress of an exam.

Ena LOVES the vet. Ena loves everybody, and everything. Nothing bad has ever happened to her (except for her rabies shot, she screamed her head off for a full minute, then ran over to kiss the vet some more!). She's happy to exist, and a typical, goofy puppy.

Bugsy loves going to the vet despite having some painful things done to him there he thinks everyone is just wonderful

He can be a bit too happy but he's better now

moca is a bit nervous at the vets, cause there's usually a lot of commotion, but she's usuallu fine, once we get in the examining room.

jason not so much. he has fear issues with other dogs, so obviously the vet isnt a good place for him. even in the examining room he will whine the whole time, if i dare to put him down to discuss some things with the vet. he NEEDS to be on my lap... lol.

Cheyanne only goes every 3 years. We're in and out in 5 minutes and she never even notices she got a shot. Anywhere people give you treats has got to be an ok place to her!!

Lillie is ok with the vet. She just is a little nervous about other dogs. But we're in and out like I said in 5 minutes so she never has time to try and make friends with everyone.Lol.

Kujo HATES the vet. She has been to the vet for 2 emergencies and those were very painful ones so she hates the vet now.

Joker did good at the vet when I got him. He's still a pup though so we'll see.

My dogs all love going to the Vet.  I stop in with a new dog or puppy and get the staff to give the dog a treatas often as possible.  It really makes a difference in how they feel.  I think dogs can smell the fear given off by other dogs when they enter the clinic and it's important to give them a positive experience, with no shots or other treatment involved.  My Vet is very gentle and will spend time petting and talking to the dog before he does any exam or procedure.  My JRT has had quite a few painful treatments over the years.  It's kind of funny because he always walks in so happy and excited to see everyone and is just being the social butterfly right up until we go into the treatment room and then the ears go back and the tail goes down, he is very conflicted because he loves our Vet but he knows sometimes the Vet has hurt him.  Too bad we can't explain that some pain is unavoidable.

I never let a vet tech or anyone take my dog out of my sight at the clinic.  At one emergency clinic I took one of the dogs to for some forgotten reason, the Vet grabbed the dog and started taking it out of the exam room and I just followed him.  He looked surprised and started to say something but I told him that I wanted to be with my dog and he didn't try and prevent me from going along.  I know that they have good reasons for not wanting the client around but I am not one to panic or get faint or sick from the sight of something gory.  I want to be there and my regular Vet has no problem because we have known each other a very long time as friends. I may have to make a stink some day over this but I think if you show that you are calm and not hysterical most clinics will agree to let you stay with your dog.

Well... Casey only goes to the vet for things I can't take care of on my own (I'm a tech) and for vaccines and such, we go to work - and he LOVES coming to work with me, both at the old job and the new one.

With the normal vet, he's nervous. He's got some fear issues, but he's getting MUCH better. We only had to muzzle for the nail trim *which I told them NOT to do.... just causes more stress* his nails grow like weeds, we trim every week (And then some). He allows the touching, with little nervous toung flicks, but nothing serious

Pirate is generally a 'shy' dog by nature - that many people 'paying attention to me MA!' makes him a little nervous at the standard vet. When he was sick he had to go 1000 times for blood draws, so I think that has added to it, a little.

Now, at the holistic vet? Different dog! He's still fairly reserved, but much, much more relaxed. He falls asleep, during his acupuncture.

He likes it, I don't think he "loves" it (he loves the park, the beach, playing fetch...), but he's a good boy there.

Maska - Big dope, just stands there and wags his tail - let's them do anything they want with no complaints.  Gets lots of hugs while he's there;-)

Sioux - Reserved, but cooperative, and will stand on command for them to work on her.  The vets and techs all love her.

Fergie - She doesn't mind the vet, but sometimes gets carsick on the way over.

Sequoyah - She likes the vet and the techs, but because she's such a reactive dog, I muzzle her just in case she reacts to a pinch or a jab.  But, last time she was a trooper, too.

All my dogs think the vet's office is cool, because when they are pups, or when I first take them, they get lots of treats from me and the receptionist!!

Tina loves the vet!! She wants everyone to be her friend.

Brianna is neutral. She doesn't love it or hate it, she tolerates being there.

Astra is everyone's friend. She's learned how to turn on the charm when she hears 'awwwww'

Kali is a nervous nellie. She only likes one out of the four vets in the office.

Taz loves it....even after he got 'sniped' LOL, all the girls that work up they're begged Dr. Hill not to nutuer Taz...it was so funny! He still loves them all!

Sampson hates the vet, he honestly hates any place other then home. He was dumped on the side of the road at 8 weeks, so, I think thats most of it. He's so nervous about everything.
