Great group, but these guys need lots of exercise and you'll hear most of these dogs do what they are bred to do. Keeps them happy and balanced. Remember that when thinking about a herding type dog. They will herd running children and sometimes can be very vocal and the coats require grooming.

Yes I own a UKC Champion Shetland Sheepdog.  There is ALOT of work that goes in to showing a dog.

My Shelties herd the rabbits I breed and the Border Collie herds the Shelties!

How important is good diet for those coats Kim?

I have competed against the Icelandic Sheep dog.  The interesting thing about the Icelandic Sheepdog is the double dew claws in the rear.

That is really interesting, why is that, Kim?

I feed a raw diet.  If you are going to feed a dry kibble I encourage people to add a can of sardines once a week.  Sardines have a great natural source of Omega 3 & 6 oils that are in a natural state in the skin of the fish.  I call it Sardine Sunday at my house.

My guys get sardines every Sunday, hence Sardine Sunday, right!!

You can add eggs (yes raw eggs), cottage cheese, yogurt, broccoli, the list goes on and on.  The more natural (raw) the ingredients the better the dog can digest and utilize the proteins.  Moisture is also very important.

Sardines, canned Salmon, and Jack Mackrel are all good inexpensive natural sources of oils.

Great info you should post regular on diets so many on here have skin issues and I know this could help.
