    Tuesday chat

Poor old Mother Nature must really be confused.  The much warmer temps, the pouring rain, in January......we had flood watches on Saturday, wonder what will happen today with more rain.  And, tomorrow we get snow.  Weird.  Sooooo, today should be fun, working in the pouring rain!  Oh well, could be worse.

Tomorrow I'm going to testify for my former boss.  The major PITA gal he finally let go is suing him for commissions.  Company policy was that if you left, for whatever reason, you were given a set time to go out and collect the $$$ if you wanted commission on outstanding accounts.  She didn't.  I did most of the collecting on her stuff, a coworker also did some.  It's really pretty cut and dried, but she is a very vindictive woman so I guess she'll try anything.  I'm almost hoping she blows in front of the judge.....that would close the case very quickly.  Should be short and sweet regardless.

OK, off to build the ark to stay dry today.

    Have a great day everyone!

Yesterday was beautiful, today rainy here and very gray. I have a busy week this week having some co-workers over for a little after holiday gathering. I hope all goes well for you tomorrow. Keep us posted.

David set up my new PC over the weekend -- I think I've partially figured out now why the "stickie" version (that we all find so terribly cluttered to see) is SOOOOOOOO popular.  That's what the new  Windows 8 looks like -- it sort of "toggles" (altho ugh -- not easily) between that and a regular desktop but those "stickies" all come alive to show you what's going on in that program behind your view.    It's all Microsoft's answer to touch screen technology.  Like it?  no -- but I have to learn to deal with it but it's slower than the proverbial molasses in January.

Glenda - hope that goes well.  It's really sucky to see someone endeavor to be such a shyster and try to get more than they're supposed to get.

Michele -- that pic you posted yesterday of your dane all snuggled up -- it's gonna give my 3 ideas I think! LOL

It was nice enough to go to a walk at lunch time - WOO HOO!

Good luck with the testifying, Glenda.  Cases involving former employees are not fun, especially when said employees are difficult, unreasonable, and/or flat out wrong about what's due them.

Callie, one of the reasons I've dragged my feet in replacing my laptop (something I started considering at least a year ago) is that I heard about how that new Windows 8 appears/behaves, and I don't like the sounds of it.  I don't like touch screen stuff (that's why I hate using DH's iPad).  I don't know why everyone has to move to that style of operating system.  Am I the only user in the world who wants a computer to appear more "business like" and straight-forward -- not colorful or busy or creative or artsy or game-y?  I dread the day we have to upgrade out PCs at work.  At home I can suffer with my ancient laptop and a-little-less-old desktop, but if we upgrade at the office,  I'll have no choice but to use that new version.  And it might make my head explode!

We're back to dry weather for a few days, but dry weather here generally means fog and poor air quality as a result.  Not good for people with asthma or allergies, but maybe we'll get another gorgeous "sunset" this week like that photo I posted a couple weeks ago.  Just trying to look on the bright side of all this fog and cloud cover!

Really nice here today too and we're breaking all kinds of records for warmest, driest days. Unfortunately, that's going to hurt us the rest of the year and the talks about water conservation have already started. I had some grandiose ideas for the front and back yard but I don't see that happening unless we get many days of rain soon.

Good luck tomorrow Glenda. I hope it turns out to be more entertaining than anything else.

Everyone is at day 2 of our annual professional dev. conference, so things are super quiet. I should take advantage of it and get caught up on some stuff but I'm more in the mood to play Solitaire Blitz :)

The former employee, fondly known as the gigantic PITA, is difficult, unreasonable and way off base that she is owned anything.  Unknown to me before, she was paid 7% on accounts that others had to go collect.  So she got 7, we got 15 and the poor boss had to eat the difference.  That really stinks.

Company policy for anyone who left  was well established.  And the boss was fine about paying what he owed.....slow, but fine.  No one who left was shortchanged by him, and in most cases the leaveee was given the benefit of the doubt if there was any question.

I just got emailed a number of documents and am reminded yet again, how truly unpleasant this gal is.

On a more pleasant note......might actually have to build that ark.  It's poured again today....all day!  The fun part will be getting all the critters together.  But, I'm NOT taking any slithery things!!

I'm glad some are having nice weather.  We are too.  We could use some of the rain Glenda's getting but nothing coming our way for the foreseeable future.  We've had a few drizzly days but nothing that really helps.

I went for a walk at lunch too and ate in the park with Gabby.  I ate, she watched.  Intently.

Maureen, from the other day.  You asked what kind of baby fish I had in my whiskey barrel.  I think they're baby goldfish but here's why I'm not sure.  I bought about ten Comet gold fish.  Those are the cheap ones that many people use as feeder fish for larger fish.  These were all about one and a half inches long.  There were some random brown minnow looking fish in with the goldfish.  Some ended up in the batch I bought.  Some of the babies are gold and some are light brown.  I think I've created a designer fish.  I'm going to call it the Hardy Not Purely Gold Maybe Minnow Doodlefish.  Doodle because I can sell them for a lot of money if they have that in their name. :)

I recently bought a new PC, and intentionally got a small business version (HP)--because I could choose Windows 7 or 8. I went with 7 of course :-)  I have an iPad, too, which I rarely use for anything work-related.

    I like the "Doodlefish" !

Mozey had her annual physical yesterday. Weight, teeth, etc are all very good. She did really well once inside, but she hates to ride in the car and going into the vet's was scary, so she went on strike for a bit.

Not much else here--just rain--Glenda, has it stopped out there yet?  I hope so, because that means it'll stop here pretty soon, too! Good luck with the trial/hearing!

Doug, how's the puppy? And, how's Piper?

    Edited to fix a word.

LOL, Doodlefish! Where can I get some of that "Doodlefish stock"
    • Gold Top Dog

I'd want a Doodlefish too but I haven't had much luck with keeping fish alive, so it's best if I spare them.

Saw a plea for a rescue to pull a golden retriever who looked scared to death. I'm told Homeward Bound made the pull, so I was relieved about that. When I was out there for a mtg on Sunday, they had only one empty kennel, so I guess they're full now. Hopefully some will get adopted soon. They've had some bad luck lately. Two dogs were returned for biting. In one case it was 100% owner error.  The other case sounds like a dog with bad wiring, so I'm not sure what they're going to do about that. They also had a couple returned post spay or neuter because the owners didn't care for them properly so soon following the surgeries. They're going to change the policy now and keep them a week or so post-op.

Poo Bear is doing well.  Saw the vet today for first shots, check up and freebees.   Pup is 11 lbs. Took longer than expected, as everybody had to see and touch Gunther.  Dog is healthy and cute.  Piper is getting used to the Pup, but spends time gazing at the horizon thinking of the good old days.  Wife is looking for the brandy bottle.  We forgot  (repressed)  housebreaking joys.  Gunther has the fastest piddle in the west.  If he assumes the posture while standing over your shoe, it will be too late.  Working on crate training.

It was up to 40ºF yesterday.  18º and dropping right now, with strong winds and blowing snow, as in white outs on the highway.  We have a series of "clippers" lined up .  Fast moving storms that hit and run.  Had to rewire a hot tube today.  Outside work on a farmstead.  This one could have burned up.   Hands may warm up by spring.

Had a PC once, and use them at work.  I have an IMac at home now.  It runs everything I need right now, and will run windows OS if asked.  I have pretty well worked Microsoft out of the system.  Never had a virus., even though Microsoft Office and other asst programs are in the system.  Probably not downloading enough porn.

Windows 8 is the worst. You couldn't pay me to buy a computer with that platform.

We had good weather today too! If you consider 37 good weather that is. Which I do. It's all relative :) we walked at lunch and for our afternoon break to the coffee shop. Of course we walk regardless of the weather. The only day we haven't walked this year was the 33 below day when we already had a lunch party planned. Otherwise I'm sure we still wold have walked. Our office has some die hard believers in getting it of the office for lunch/breaks to reset your head. It makes people much more productive and fosters creative thinking and problem solving imo. It's one reason I like working in a city with a walkable downtown area.

The police detectives still haven't returned my calls so I can get the police report amended which allows my insurance company to pay me. It's been 3 weeks now. That's very annoying.

Oh my!  This was horrific.  I'm in that area several times a day.
