Just wanted to let you guys know that so far Gibby is doing pretty good. Feel kind of sorry for him being stuck in one room...but its better than being stuck in a crate for 6 months I guess. He goes back to the doctor next week..hoping for a good report but then don't know what he can see with it in a cast.   I still have not seen him sit even once...and he still rarely lays on the floor like a dog..but happy that he did today...

Sorry....don't know why the picture didn't come up.... very good.

Glad to hear he's doing ok.  Keeping my fingers crossed that he gets a good report on the check up.  If you click on the picture is shows up.  Someone had to explain that to me the other day.  :)

Yanke, here's the thread about Gibby's injury. http://community.dog.com/health/f/29481/t/121262.aspx

He is starting to lick his foot a lot.... not sure if its itching even though the surgery was up farther...or he is bored or what.....he does lick things way too much so I don't know what to think but watching carefully... making sure nothing looks or smell crummy. Of course licking a the wrap enough caused things to smell crummy......I have a little golf sock I put over the bottom...but he wants to lick the sock now...ugh.

I'm glad to know that he's doing well and hope he has a good checkup next week.

Awwwww, that photo just tugs at my heart.  Poor guy, he looks a bit uncomfortable.  I can imagine it does itch or make him want to lick at it.  It must feel similar to when we've got stitches or a heavy bandage on -- very annoying after a while.

Gibby, you hang in there.  That cast will come off soon and you'll feel great.  I do love the snazzy lime green color on you.  Very trendy!

Ouch.  Seems like he's doing well though.  I hope he's back to normal in no time.

Thanks Yanke...wish so....but Doctor said it will be a long recovery...that tendons just take forever and that the achilles tendon was just the worst one that any dog could cut....especially a big dog.   He said a full 6 months.

Last night he had a set back.... we noticed a fluid coming from under his cast...he was licking a lot...called the clinic and they said that was one of the things we were to bring him in immediately for.....so we packed him into the car about 5PM and went.   Thankfully...when the ER doctor called the surgeon to ask him what he wanted them to do.... he decided to come in and do it himself.  We are so happy for this.   It took him about an hour to get there but he was so great to come on a Sat. night....he changed the bandages that he would have done at Gibbys 2 week appt this week...said the incision was looking really good but this fluid was actually from his foot...2 toes rubbing against the cast irritating it and not sure if infected or not but they put him back on Antibiotics so it looks like it.      So except for that we had to pay that extra ER fee.... I am happy that this was taken care of last night instead of worrying.

Awww poor Gibby; his foot must have been pretty sore. It was very nice of the surgeon to come to the ER and take care of him. I hope he doesn't have anymore set backs; give him some smooches for me.

Poor Gibby, hope you feel better very soon ...quit licking and making you Mom worry.

I'm so sorry to hear about Gibby's setback.  I'm glad you were able to get it looked at so quickly so it didn't turn into a major infection.  What great care you got from the surgeon to come out on a Saturday night!  You wouldn't even expect that from a human's surgeon these days if you went to the ER.

Sending some ear rubs to Gibby!

That is for sure....after the rough start and worry.... stess of sitting all that time in an ER...with what goes on in there.....and upset at even more money put out........I sure came home feeling content and happy...I was just thrilled this fella cared enough.
