It's hard to believe we're already into the first weekend of November! I tried to stay up for the 7th game of the World Series--too late for me, but what a game. Today's a teaching day, so I'm off to class in a bit.

Hi everyone. Happy belated Thanksgiving. Dr. put my hand in a "spica splint" ... I have this long fancy-named (de Quervain's tenosynovitis) -- and the HUGE joke is -- it's a "sports" injury (ME??? ummm ... NOT possible!! LOL) -- you also get it from texting and "gaming"... more

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) , approximately 4.5 million dog bites occur each year in the United States. Almost 20 percent of these bites need immediate medical attention. Unfortunately, the rate of dog bites is higher among children compared to adults. Every dog has the potential to bite. In fact, most dog bites occur when playing with familiar dogs. Dog bites often result in serious physical injuries. Most victims, however, are emotionally scarred for life,... more

Sandra, I am so sorry to hear about Sophie. That she got to spend her retirement with you is surely a happy memory she took with her to the Bridge. (((hugs))) And, it sounds like you have had some major health issues lately! Have the stents helped? Will they do a similar procedure for your left leg?... more

Can anyone dealing with Dry Eye in their dog please tell me about their experience with this horrible affliction and how you and your dog are dealing/living with it? What medication(s)/treatments did your vet prescribe and any other tips/advice that you can share would be greatly appreciated. I don't have complete faith in the vet we are seeing and I don't want my Abbie to lose her vision, or worse, her eyes to this. She has ulcers on her eyes and horrible greenish yellow discharge that is... more

The best time to diagnose Dry Eye is early in the disease before all of the tear tissue has been destroyed. However, Dry Eye has a very varied appearance and can be subtle, especially early in the disease. Veterinary specialists in ophthalmology recommend testing virtually all sore eyes, especially if... more

Ever watch a Pyrenees play in a mud puddle . Lovely white hair turning brown. Owners face turning white. Our dog park is drying out now, and we can use the Lowes equipment, but one front corner of the park is a bog. Part of the riverside walking trail has washed out and cut the trails width in half for a ways. But the weather has been great and the park is now home to a revolving crowd of people and dogs.

Happy Halloween to everyone and to your 4-legged furry goblins! We get tons of kids at our door, so it presents a challenge with Ruby. DH has to hang on to her leash while I pass out the candy. We don't let her get too close to the door because we worry she'll jump on the kids, or worse. When... more

The wood is walnut. A few of the pieces of tree are big enough to make boards, but are too heavy for me to lift. Got enough logs to have some fun making bowls and candlestick holders-thats the wife idea. Had about 50 kids at the house last night begging for candy. Sky was excited, watching out the... more

Just erased my post! Warm here today--in the mid-60s, so I bathed all the dogs outside. Mozey is now trying to dry her feet. It might get to 70 tomorrow--amazing. Ginger, we completed the pet therapy training program offered at our community college. It had a course for the humans, a course (8 weeks... more

Lovely young ( nearly 2) spayed female who really wa nts to play . When she's off lead can get overexcited and starts jumping at me and biting. T oday, her bites were extremel y hard and, although I was wearing a thick coat, managed to bruise my arm. I'm starting to think I'd be better not to let her off lead unless there's another dog she can play with.

That's a great site! I personally won't use any product made by Diamond, simply because of their history of contamination.

Hi, thanks for sharing the sites, I didn't care much about what I get for my dogs until I had a labrador that got renal failure during his old days.

Aren't all the good ones gas powered. After all the power to weight ratio of a battery isn't that good. Perhaps that's the real problem with the one we have. The battery probably isn't powerful enough to give it a good lift and then it dies so fast...well, it just isn't fun [8|]. The boat is the... more

How do I get rid of Giardia in the environment, specifically the grass? Our 8 month old shepherd has had it for the last few months and the vet has given him medication for it twice but I think he keeps re- infecting himself when he goes outside. We have been picking up his stool and spraying the spot with a mixture of water and bleach but it's not working. He tested positive for Giardia again yesterday and now our 6 year old border collie is showing symptoms. How do we get it out of the grass... more

Not walking the river path at the dog park until there is a frost. Gnats go right through the deet. Thanks to several rains a week, we have mosquitos everywhere. Watched a family of tourists taking advantage of the path. They made it about 10 ft into the woods before giving up. It's really too bad as the river walk is really a pretty walk. About a mile long, through a river bottom woodland and along the river. Dog park has a low spot in one corner that the dogs have discovered. Fun to watch... more

My current dog, Dexter, is a wonderful dream of a dog. He was an older puppy/young adult rescue from a shelter where I previously lived. Dexter is 6.5 now, and a large (70lbs) boxer/cattle dog. So he's not exactly a young little dude anymore, and I certainly pray for many more years together, but statistically speaking he will live for another 4-6 years. DH is somewhat allergic to Dexter and can get hives from petting him or being licked. We manage this with frequent bathing (of the dog), medicating... more

NOTE to Newcomers : Welcome to the Rainbow Bridge Welcoming Committee! I started this a while back, as my way of helping forum members to heal their broken hearts after a loss. All the pets (with the exception of a running horse ) are beloved pets that had a close relationship with a member on this forum. Every pet you see in these pictures represents a small hole in someone's heart.. and the hope that we may once again see our furry friends in another life. If you have experienced a loss and... more
