  • She's a good dog, really

Tomorrow is the second class in our second go-around at the off-lead obedience class. I don't really care whether she heels properly or not, but we've had a few incidents that have reinforced the need for Isis to be more obedient . I just don't want a repeat of our last practice test, in...

  • Training Rules Your Dog-edited by mdoerator

When it comes to training a dog, it seems there is an endless list of behaviors to teach: sitting, lying down, coming when called, walking nicely on leash, not jumping up -- you get the idea. Happily, there are some laws of learning your dog already knows! *please do not spam links to other sites using...

  • A Pitbull at Petsmart?! Are they insane?!?!

Luna woke up cold today. It rained last night and she doesn't have any type of shelter to keep her dry. She lives in sunny Los Angeles where it's been perfect weather for months now. But the water finally came. She loves water, but she doesn't love it THAT much... Thankfully, the sun was...

  • Another Shameless Brag!

Trudy finally got her UKC Novice Obedience Title with another second place and a score of 189. I think that this is it for obedience with Trudy. I lose a lot of performance between practice and the ring. She gets sort of star struck out there and it is hard to get her attention. Just wanted to follow...

  • New Black Lab

Hello! I have written a previous post about my new dog and trying to get him accustomed to our three cats. but now, i thought perhaps i'd ask for advice on all his other 'quirks'! First, We just adopted Petey one week ago from the Humane Society. He is a one year old black lab mix (perhaps...

  • Suddenly peeing in same area inside

I have a 1-year-old dog. She was easily "potty" trained. The process was/is to let her out into the backyard; out the door, down a flight of stairs, onto the grass. That was going well. Several months ago she was spayed. During the recovery time we would let her out through the front door to...

  • Re: Barking, Barking, and some more barking!

Chuffy gives great suggestions. Also, is there a way for you to physically leave the training area (another room, down the hall, outside the door, etc.) each and every time he starts to bark? He probably enjoys working with you and getting treats, so if all the fun (fun = seeing the other dogs, getting...

  • New... and I like you even if you don't have GSDs!

Hi, all! I'm new here... I have German Shepherds, as you might guess, and am blogging at germanshepherdcentral.net . Obviously, I'm very GSD-oriented, but I'm also a professional dog trainer and I love working with people -- so feel free to be friends even if you don't have a German Shepherd...
