Re: AIHA or IMHA
What a relief the box of cyclo I got at Costco says modified, I asked the vet about it and he said that will be absorbed better. The ones I got at Walgreens looked different, I'm not sure if they were modified or not but Smokie is still doing well so maybe it didn't matter.
The modified will all look like gelcaps with liquid inside. They are big. The unmodified will look like tiny capsules with powder inside. You want the modified.

Re: AIHA or IMHA

Wow I don't even feel like I know anyone here anymore. Things are going so fast I can't really keep up. Should anyone want a one-on-one dialogue with me via e-mail, I am more than willing to spend time with anyone who wants my opinions on things. I did this with Judah and his dog Eli and they both seem to be doing well. Callie, I see you started an index or something. Good deal. Months and months of struggle with Cyclops shouldn't go to waste. 9 months and Cyclops is doing well. About

Re: AIHA or IMHA

This is what I was told by OSU regarding Pepcid AC. A normal human dose is 10mg every 24 hours. For dogs it is 10mg every 12 hours. Something to do with a dog's digestive system/stomach makes it necessary to do it every 12 instead of every 24. If it were me I would give every 12 hours while on Prednisone to be sure. Extra Strength Pepcid AC is the same medicine just in a 20mg pill. My vet said to use only the 10mg pill. Cyclops is 60 pounds. You may find it cheaper to buy the 20mg pill and use
I think it was Cyclosporine and he's holding steady at 16.
Great news that he's on the Cyclosporine.

Re: AIHA or IMHA

Sounds like a great plan to me. You'd end up having quite a database of info there. The bad part about IMHA is that the dog has to make it past that initial crash phase before it really matters what to do at all. But for the dogs that survive the crash, the collected info might really be useful. Anything you can do would be great!

Re: AIHA or IMHA

I got an e-mail from my vet at OSU. She said that sometimes if the blood sits out at room temp for too long you can have a decrease in the glucose reading. She said that I was correct, 27 is not a glucose reading that is compatible with life. She also said she wants me to continue on with the Aspirin for another month and gave her blessing to decrease the Cyclosporine another 25mg per dose. The only thing I'll do differently is to make sure I make it clear to have the lab work sent off to Antech

Re: AIHA or IMHA

Platelets were under 400 last month - I want to say it was 368 or something like that. The range used is 170-400 here. So she really isn't that much over if the test is even accurate. The Glucose is 70-138. And she has always been in the normal range between 98 and 118. Its impossible that she was 27. I pricked her ear today with my dads glucose testing machine and she was 102. A human's blood glucose normal reading would be 80-85 for people without diabetes. anything over 110 is diabetic

Re: AIHA or IMHA
If you are nearby I'd be happy to provide a dog or dogs for blood transfusions
Thats very cool =) They say my dog Domingo is too small to give Transfusions but someday I'd like to have another big dog and be able to help like that.

Re: soooo sweet

I'm not sure why they don't have type specific dogs available for donation? Because you can only do Universal one time and then you have to have typed and cross matched blood. I came very close to doing Oxyglobin but I found out later that IMHA dogs don't do well on it at all. I guess it beats nothing if there is no other choice but I was very lucky that there was type-specific blood available at the teaching hospital. I hope Smokie keeps the HCT up and doesn't need another Transfusion
