Re: Can dogs get sunburned?

Thanks, and yes she is pink skinned, which is why I was concerned. We only allow her outside when we are home - the door is open so she can come back inside whenever she wants. She will sunbathe for a while, come in to have a drink, and then go back out.

Can dogs get sunburned?

This may be a silly question, but since I have a predominantly white dog that loves sitting in the sun... can they get sunburned? If so, is there any way I can protect her?

Re: How much do they REALLY understand?

I don't think Bailey understands English, but she picks up things very quickly. She can also sense exactly when I'm going to feed her or take her out (this doesn't happen at the same time every day or after a series of routine events). She always seems to know when it's time to be cuddly and when it's time to hang out on her bed with her toys which is nice. Command/word-wise, she knows all the normal sit/wait/down/paw/other paw/roll over/leave it/back up/go to your bed, etc. She

Re: So proud!

This morning we were on our front porch heading outside and an adult who said hello to Bailey last week came up to her and tried to pet her, which elicited an "I'm not a morning person, plus I have to poo" growl. The woman seemed pretty peeved about it and I felt bad. I was wondering whether I should have stayed there and made Bailey "behave" (ie, make her allow the woman to pet her without growling, even though she was approached on her own turf without my permission)? I

Re: Can't do dressage?

A friend sent me that link and my first thought was that it's easier to ride those movements than train the dog to do them! The one thing that did confuse me is why the handler would be wearing equestrian gear at a dog show. Seems a little silly, but maybe that's what she was going for!

So proud!

Today Bailey played with some little boys that live in our condo complex and I was so proud of her! I had to instruct the kids on how to properly introduce themselves to a new dog and they actually listened. Then she just sat there calmly while they petted her, gave her treats, and just generally loved on her. It almost makes up for her chewing a hole in one of the couch cushions the other day... Anyway, this is a big deal because when we first got her, she was really shy around new people and would

Re: Do you let your dog bark?

Bailey isn't a barker at all. One of our friends' dogs is huge and when they play together Bailey barks at her heels trying to keep up, or wanting her to go faster... it's actually pretty cute. I wouldn't encourage her to bark on command just because its not a behavior I'd want to encourage. I wouldn't mind if she barked when someone came to the door, but maybe in time she will.

Re: What kind of food do you feed your babies?

I have no babies but I do have a dog. ;) I feed Blue Buffalo Lamb & Brown Rice or Fish & Sweet Potato. Its the first food I tried and I have been very happy with it. After reading some reviews, I tried to switch her to Innova Evo which was a big mistake. She started acting like she was on speed and it gave her awful gas. So although it's an interesting formula, I'll stick with Blue and save on air fresheners.

Re: Mindless Chatter - Sunday

It's supposed to reach 46 degrees here today so I'm hoping to break the sub zero hibernation streak of this past week and get Bailey out hiking. These next few months are going to be crazy - I'm getting married in July and the stress has started to set in. Ack. My current task is to find ballroom dancing lessons locally so I've been Google-ing this morning and leaving messages at dance studios. I think it will be fun to learn how to dance properly, but I'm a little intimidated
