Re: Ed Frawley of Leerburg goes positive??

Ha, Cesar could learn a lot from Frawley's old stuff, let alone his new attitude towards markers. Frawley has always fascinated me. His stuff on dealing with aggressive dominant dogs is decent imo.

Re: Deference, Appeasement & Calming Signals in Training

Huh. I've had a lot of positive results using calming signals / doggie language. Obviously I'm not fluent in dog talk, but my dogs and other dogs I run into seem to accept my pidgin dog and respond as I'd wish. I curve, I yawn, I look away, I engage in play stances and that dance of Am-I-gonna-get-you-or-not. I've taught my 6 year old a lot of dog language and it's been useful to her to. She knows about looking way, she knows what yawning means, etc.

Re: rw-teehee, using Cleo

I do this all the time with unwanted solicitors. I let the dogs bark and push at the door which I have cracked open. No one lingers.

I'm so horrified for you. I'm glad Brinxx is ok.

Re: Leaving a dog unsupervised in backyard

Mine typically have free run of the house and the yard while we're gone. My neighbors have always been good about letting me know if the dogs were being a nuisance. Back when we first got dogs we learned that we needed to fence off two areas of our yard because the dogs would sit on the slopes and bark at all that happened below. Removing access to the slopes fixed it. Sasha is a sunbathing beauty and spends much of her day in the yard. Eko is more of a house dog but I'm less stressed knowing

Re: How to cure a runner?

Liesje, I think you're right. Eko will bolt out the door but he doesn't run away and he recalls well. I don't like him bolting but it doesn't scare me because I know he'll come right back. He bolts to express how much he wants us to go outside but his focus is on the "us." He never tunes me out. We had a dog previously that bolted and ran. It was a nightmare and prevention was the only thing that worked. The joy of running outweighted anything else. There was no reinforcement

Re: Your crate setup.

I have two wire crates in my bedroom that the dogs use for sleeping or in the occasional event we need the dogs out of company's hair. Eko would sleep on the bed if we didn't shut his door. With Sasha we don't need to shut her door and in fact we only brought her crate back out after it became clear she felt less safe without one. Since my dogs get crate trained as puppies they always seem to like their crates. Downstairs we have an xpen in the living room which is ugly but it keeps Eko

Re: Eko is a big boy (Dogma update 1)
Eko is gorgeous! I love the pic of him watching over his kid.
The two of them are amazing. He's never been aggressive but he is very clearly protective of her in a watchful way. He wants to be at her side when she's out in the world. I've learned not to leave the living room windows open! She once went to the front yard to play. He sailed straight through the screen without a moment's hesitation. It was both heart warming and totally

Re: Eko is a big boy (Dogma update 1)
I wish we could get him and Wyatt together for a ridgeback romp. Wyatt played with 2 ridgies once and it was the best playdate i've ever seen.
That would be so much fun! One of my few regrets is that he doesn't get more chances to play with other ridgebacks.
