Re: Derailing habitual over-excitement
Make sure he's well exercised right before he comes home. If you need to, take him out by himself for an extra walk/run.
Re: The Way Dogs Think Part 2: More on Pack Mentality

I do believe in pack ideology but going out the door first or not is just about manners more than anything and i dont want to wash my hand every time i give food to my dog, he can just take it from the plate himself

Re: E-collar discussion
She simply learned that "Leave it! Come!" was not optional.
I'm pretty sure that you know the behavior characteristics of a Mal, therefore i could not afford to check if "Leave it" would work or not. I'm pretty skilled at timing "leash redirections" so that was the tool i decided to use. I reduced the exposure time by half maybe doing that, those were extra days where my dog was not at risk of being run over by a car

Re: How do you exercise your dogs?

I walk Chuck with any of these pieces of equipment below every single day for 45 minutes regardless of the weather. If he does not walk he is a tornado inside my house.

Re: E-collar discussion
I'm not so "all-knowing" as to think I couldn't make a mistake with a lighter tool and assume that I must go to the next heavier tool.
I can give you and example about why (even when i didnt go all the way to the haviest tool but i didnt start with a lighter tool either) When i started walking Chuck back in the day i was introduced to his very normal Mal prey drive. The prey drive where he was going from 0 to 100 in less than 2 seconds. The

Re: Excessively Fearful Dogs
You attempt to be nonchalant about it yourself, reinforce any bravery, and attempt to create positive associations with things that scare the dog
Aka pushing her to confront whatever fears of people and "scary" things that she has. Is the same thing but told differently. Create positive associations is just that, "pushing" the dog from a safe distance to confront the scary thing. Just what Anne54 is trying to accomplish

Re: E-collar discussion
but he put the collar on my wrist (being a very sensitive area of the human body) and gave me the marker nick and had to ask him to do it again to even feel it.
The issue with people against it is that they actually think that the only level the collar has equals the level of a tazer or something like that. I havent use one but i'm not against it if you REALLY know how to use it

Re: Excessively Fearful Dogs
Can the personalities of her owners have affected or exacerbated her behaviors in this way? her owner is kind of a worrier and almost a type A personality whereas I'm definitely more relaxed and calm, and Greta always seems more at peace after I've spent time with her.
This is definitely the issue. In my opinion if she was like that everywhere then the issue would be bigger. But thats not the case. The fact that she is some way relaxes with you is an
