Re: Just a grooming rant

I agree! If I haven't seen a client in, oh say, 6 weeks or so, I'll call to make sure eveyone is alright and remind them it's time for a "spa day". Sorry they've made you feel so terrible and unimportant. Maybe it's time to find a new groomer.

Re: trimmers

The Speed Feed is a medium sized, very lightweight trimmer with an adjustable blade which cuts from a 9 down to a 40. It never gets hot and is great for doing very close clipper work. It's not as narrow as the Tid-Bit however, but is more narrow than a regular clipper blade. I use mine every day, on every dog, but especially like it for doing Poo face's and feet's. It's also great for doing sani's since it doesn't heat up. I don't know what I'd do without it. The Wahl

Re: trimmers

I love my Laube Speed Feed trimmer w/adjusting blade. It's used daily and one every single dog I do. It's a workhorse and comes with two battery packs, charger, and clip on combs (which I don't use). They are right around $100, but sometimes you can find them on that auction site (not mentioning names) for less. There is also the Wahl Bravera which also has an adjustable blade, however I have not used one, but know many who have and love them as well and is a little spendier.

Re: Help with ears...

Just thought I'd add a lil tidbit that really seems to work well for me. The little fine cottony hairs that some breeds tend to have on and around the ears are easily plucked out. You would not believe how much difference it makes in the overall appearance and the dogs don't seem to mind at all. Not to mention, the look last's alot longer and is much more natural looking. As far as the hair around his chest, you could card that area well and it would "thin" it down some without

Re: jack russell brushing ???

Jennie is right about the 40 BLADE being a great carding tool. When you disassemble the "blade" you'll have multiple parts, but the two you think of as the blade are the CUTTER (the smaller back piece that moves when the clipper is on) and the BLADE (the part that goes against the dog when using). Alot of times, the cutter teeth will break off and once this happens, the "blade" isn't usable anymore. BUT, if you disasemble it, you can use the component parts by recycling

Re: Naming my salon

Gosh, Jennie, I know what you mean about the dog showing off in the shop! Cami HAS to meet everybody that comes in, lol. Hey, what about, Whiskers something or another! Or, since you are doing dogs AND cats, Pretty Paws and Claws? Precious Pets, OR, lol, Doggy Doo's and Kitties Too! He he, I can think of a bunch when it's not mine :) HA HA, closet, I know the feeling! My place is really small, but it's only me, so it's not that bad. My biggest problem is storage, as I have no where

Re: Naming my salon

Thanks y'all :) Jacob, the dressing table will be used for display and storage of merchandise (combs, brushes, and grooming products), it's cute huh? The dresser matches it and I'll use it for merchandising and storage (blankies, Tee's, etc). My shop is only about 400sqft, so I understand about being cramped. Although, my front room (the boutique) is not full of merchandise yet, so at least I've got some breathing room. My grooming area is pretty cramped, but it's only me

Re: Naming my salon

Jennie, I don't visit here as much as I used to and had no idea you had your own salon now! WOW, I so glad for you :) I opened my pet spa in March and it was HARD to figure out what to name it, lol. You want it to sound catchy, so people will remember it, but you want it to reflect you as well. It also needs to sound professional, yadda, yadda, yadda! It took me 3 months and finally I just settled. I couldn't make up my mind, lol so I named it after my dog, Cameo's Pet Spa and Boutique

Re: Have any groomers here heard of "schnauzer tail" (a type of skin disease)?

Schnauzer Comedome Syndrome (schnauzer bumps) can't be cured, but as Jacob said, carding the coat (like using the furminator) prior to clipping or carding it frequently if you don't clip at all, will help to open up the hair folicles and allow the shampoo's to clean them out. Benzoyl Peroxide shampoo's are perfect for this and can be found through veterinarians or if you can get a groomer to order some for you through Davis Manufacturing Doing these things will help to lessen the

Re: Has anyone ever seen this Pet Shower Curtain?

What a JOKE! LOL. That's a waste of a perfectly good, 3 easy payments of 19.99 Who makes this thing, RONCO? he he Anyone that's afraid of getting a little wet from washing their dog, deserves to be ripped off on such a silly product. From someone who bathes dogs for a living, I couldn't see how this THING could be safe, let alone practical. It's hard enough keeping a squirmy, sudsy pup in the tub as it is, much less, doing it incubator style, LMBO!
