Re: You Know You're A Hippie When........

...you went to over 100 Grateful Dead shows before Jerry died, and attended his memorial in Golden Gate park. You know all of their song lyrics by heart and can identify almost every song they played within the first couple of notes. You kept set lists of their concerts. You still wear your tie-died tee shirts and you like to listen to the Sirius Satellite Radio Grateful Dead Channel. You have friends that are fondly referred to as "acid casualties".

Re: Four of a Kind/Royal Flush

My shepherds have always gravitated towards other shepherds. There could be a group of 8-10 dogs hanging together, and invariably, mine would pick out the shepherd in the group as if they recognized it as a relative. That doesn't necessarily mean they'd get along better with a shepherd than another breed, but I do think that having compatible play styles helps.

Re: Training a pefect recall with an e-collar
But is it b/c of training, or does it have more to do with breed, their attachment to you, their level of drive, how easy they are to motivate, etc? So many people describe how they train a recall and how the dog caught on and make it sound so easy....is that the training or the dog's predisposition to being trained? I train recalls the same way and have two completely different results between two dogs. Nikon is 4 months old and is as reliable as a 4 month old

Re: dealing with someone else's reactive dog

Can you turn around and head the opposite direction until you get to a side street, go down a couple of houses, and wait until she and the dog are past? Keefer gets barky at other dogs on walks, although he's extremely social off leash at the park (I think he gets frustrated that he can't go meet EVERYBODY he wants to when he wants to ), so I have a variety of ways to increase the distance and diffuse him. Also, if there are any cars parked on the street you can go the opposite direction

Re: Thanksgiving Side Dishes

Derby pie, yum! I haven't made that it a long time. It's wonderful served warm with vanilla ice cream or gelato, sort of like a chocolate chip cookie, a little chewy on the edges and a little gooey in the middle. *sigh* One thing I only make at Thanksgiving and Christmas is a fabulous recipe for cranberry sauce made with fresh cranberries, dried apricots, and minced fresh ginger that I found in a little booklet at the grocery store about 20 years ago. There were several recipes for fresh

Re: When do you give up on a friendship?
I don't want to make you feel worse about things, but if you're doing all the work trying to hold this together, then maybe it's time to give it a break and see where it goes.
That would be my criteria. If you're the one doing all the work to stay in touch and trying to get together with her and she doesn't seem that interested, maybe it's already over. I'd stop trying for a while and see if she picks up the slack. If she doesn't

Re: Selfish Wedding?
When I proposed the idea of a small ceremony on the beach (where we live, where we had our first date) and a big reception across the street at the Clarion Hotel it was shot down so fast because it wasn't in a church! OMG! Can you believe the audacity of us???? Condisering neither of us is really religious.
Ugh. I'd tell them "If a church wedding is so important to you, have one of your own This is MY wedding". A small beach wedding sounds

Re: Is your dog trained off leash?

I'd never walk a dog off leash in an area with cars, but we do go to off leash parks every weekend. I think doing that on a regular basis from a young age (around 4 months old) really helped make being off leash around distractions a routine thing. Now if Keefer got out the front door he might go visiting the neighbors before coming back, but he WOULD come back. Having ball obsessed dogs helps too, or any other toy or game that they need you to play with them. We don't see bunnies or deer
