Re: Puppy Diarrhea

Giardia tends to be horrifically smelly, not just normal dog poop yuck but I mean totally off the charts OMG smelly. If he is not exhibiting that factor it is doubtful it's the big G Bug. Plus they are stressing when dealing with Giardia. Play levels sink, energy is low and they are not generally in best coat. Since they have done fecals you can rule out parasites. Have the tested for Coxcidiosis? The dogs generally develope it around 2 months old they have very loose stools with heavy mucus

Re: Puppy Diarrhea

Like someone else mentioned it is not too young. many breeders who believe strongly in RAW wean puppies straight to it never using a kibble or canned diet. WE begin our pups on it at 8-9 weeks ( they never are allowed to go home before 10 weeks. But we use frozen raw chicken pieces for teething chewies and go on to feed them one of 3 meals a day RAW. We dictate kibble choices and encourage RAW supplementation but do not insist on straight RAW for our line. We enjoy a very long lived line as we restrict

Re: puppy food

I want to make sure I understand so I don't step on your toes. You bought a puppy on line? Or from a pet store? Not from an Ethical Breeder who should and would be making sure you had the information needed for your specific breed. Or from shelter where they at best could give you a guess on what the breeds involved are? That can make a huge difference in how your puppy should be fed and how the puppy should be raised. For example my puppy people are not simply paying an arm and a leg for our

Re: Hi from Michigan

An exceptional Dog opens your world to more 4 legged Furkids. They all have lessons we need to learn or affirm. Take your time, investigate every breed. Once you go my breed ALL others are just Sweet dogs. I'd have it no other way. Kind of like once you sleep with Johnny Depp wh wants Steve Catrell . Sweeet and funny but , realllllly in your bed every night? we have 6 RRs all from the pup who is nearly 50 pounds to the adults topping out around 93. 6 months to 13 years. Add to that 5 grandkids

Re: Hello from Texas!

Hi, It may also be possible that the Mixes involved in your dog have much to do with the change up from wild child to the calm boy he is now. Most hounds tend to settle down a bit later than other breeds. It has a lot to do with their hunting instincts, the prey drive and urge to conqeur makes them a challenge for many people. Now that your baby has hit the tail end of adolescence he is simply growing up. You can now try focusing games. Things that most hounds not only excell at but totally adore

Re: Crate training tips for a newly adopted dog

So I guess there is often someone who does not clicker train , today that would be me. I raise an African Hunting Hound. They are large , independent and often suspicious of newer things. They are truly more Feline than Canine. We take all Ridgebacks through the same process. We ONLY feed in crate. Anything not picked up in our case in 5 minutes is gone. Our RRs only eat once a day which keeps they motivated by treats for training. ( In fact if we are fostering a Rescue who is reputed to be picky

Re: My dog bit me this morning while sleeping :(

You mentioned he seemed very clingy after being disciplined. Chances are pretty good that he is concerned about the change in your attitude. It is fairly common situation. When someone adopts a dog , brings it home they feel wonderful about knowing they did a very good thing. They offer Love and companionship to the pup/dog and it gives it back. The opportunity of encorporating the new personality into your Life is a great feeling and a work in progress. Since we all change to one degree or another

Re: What Should I Do?

I would keep it clean, use a small layer of simple antibiotic ointment , like Neosporin. Some folks may advise you close it with super glue, as that was a very common way to handle wound care in larger kennels. However it is no longer a good idea since you may trap bacteria or foreign matter inside the excision site and an infection will build rapidly. Using tape and gauze may be a problem if it draws the dog's attention to the area. A small open wound can actually be managed with little effort

Re: Advice sought on stopping "revengeful/destructive" behaviour

As mentioned in the previous answer first step is to stop envisioning these things as "Revenge" , Dogs don't do "revenge" that is a human trait. Breaking it down a bit for you. Decades ago the concept of housebreaking would be attempted by rubbing a dog's nose in their mess. Humans thought this would teach the dog it was not acceptable. All it taught dogs was Humans were crazy and gross! Within Moments of going potty they forget the entire action. Dogs do not "own"
