  • Sandy's birthday party LOL Aug. 2007

Sandy just turned ONE year old on Sat Aug 4th. Now let me tell you what I did for her bday. Before you judge me and call me a wacko, LOL,. i did all this for my  neighbors granddaughter that loves Sandy. She visits 2X a month and i had explained to her it was Sandys birthday so she wanted to have a party for Sandy, hence my idea.............................. In our area we have a couple close families that have dogs, so i had the idea to have a DOGGIE BIRTHDAY PARTY, ok say it... i have no life and i have too much time on my hands, its ok i heard it all. anyway i sent out little invitaitons to the area dogs and i decorated the picnic table with balloons and bday decorations and made goodie bags for the dogs to take home with bisquits in...go ahead laugh.. i also got doogie ice cream, its called Frosty Paws, and i made a doggie bday cake, let me know if you want the recipe. Its made with beef baby food and doggie jerky treats (it was a big hit, the dogs loved it) Sandy had on a birthday bandana and i hat bday hats for the dogs too, but only a couple would keep them on.  We had 7 dogs (Poodle Mix, German Shephard, Choc. Lab, Pomeranian, Mix, Beagle) attend and they were all well behaved and the neighbors loved it, it was adorable and Sandy got alot of gifts and treats. Everyone is still talking about it. My sister told everyone about it in her law office and they were hysterical. And most import and my neighbors granddaughter LOVED it, she was soooo happy, shes in 1st grade.

Here is a recipe i used to make Sandy's birthday cake, she loved it and so did the other dogs

                                Jerky Cake

    Here's a make-at-home beef-flavored dog cake recipe from Bullwrinkle.com:

    1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    1/2 cup soft butter
    1/2 cup corn oil
1 jar strained beef baby food
    4 eggs
    2-3 strips of beef jerky

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour an 8x5x3 inch loaf pan. Cream butter until smooth. Add corn oil, baby food, and eggs. Mix until smooth.

Mix dry ingredients into beef mixture until batter is smooth. Crumble beef jerky and fold into batter. Pour batter into loaf pan. Bake 1 hour and 10 minutes. Cool on wire rack 15 minutes. Frost with plain yogurt, cream cheese or cottage cheese. Crumble another strip of beef jerky and sprinkle on top of icing. Store in refrigerator.

  • Sandy's Surgery Jan. 2008

What a day!! Sandy had her procedure at 8:15 am and they let her come home around 1:00 the same day. OMG the poor thing was sooo sick. I knew she would be sore, but I didnt think she would be so bad. When i got my beloved Maggie (rest in peace) from the Shih Tzu rescue many years ago she was already fixed, so I didnt know what to expect.

I came home from work early since my hubby was going to work and he didnt want to leave her alone. I held her for hours, she was shaking soooooo bad and drooling constantly. Side affects from coming out of the anestesia. I was soaked with drool and the blankets were soaked and I used a box of tissues wiping her mouth. She puked, and cried. YES, she cried and wined for hours. Oh my heart was breaking for her. She couldnt get comfortable and was still half asleep from the anestesia as she tried to walk, she just couldnt and stumpled around. I made her a nice bed up on the couch where she stayed the rest of the day and evening. Lots of blankets around her and I sat with her for hours (taking turns with my son) so she wouldnt roll off or try to get up.  Well she finally slept soundly and i woke her up to pee, i had to carry her, then she went to bed for the night.

The next day she was still tired and still didnt eat til later on, but as the day went on she was better. Happy to report, she is her old fiesty self today and gets her stitches out next Friday.

With all the modern technology, I cant believe they still shave the entire area,  cut them open and stitch them up, she must have at least 10 stitches and is cut about 3 inches long. And they gave her no pain medicine to take home. I'm just glad my husband will be taking her to get the stitches out, that wont go well, LOL..

Although she would have had adorable puppies, i'm sure this is for the best.
