  • Don't touch my paws!

So, last night Mully is laying on the couch, streched from end to end and she starts biting at her toe nails.  She has this thing where she grabs her dew claws and starts pulling.  Can't figure out why.

So, it reminds me that I need to trim her dews.  The others are great from all the walking we do.  It took me TEN minutes to be able to get at them.  She HATES having her paws touched for trimming.  So, I've got this routine where I calm her down, then sneak the trimmer over the dew claw, then take a quick snip.  The thing is, I can't actually touch the paw.   My first golden was like this too.  Growls, snarls, basically says "Don't touch my paws unless I say so!"

What gives with this?  Any suggestions?

  • All Bummed Out

Went back to the surgeon today for our 4 month recheck after acl surgery.  Found out Mully can never run again.  There is too much chance that she will tear the implant or the other knee's acl.  It is restricted walking from here on out - forever.  He wants her to lose 15# too.  She is not a fat dog to begin with.

Anyone have much experience w/ either?

  • Be Safe! Be Well!

I have read many of your blogs and profiles over the past several weeks, and now feel a need to remind everyone (at least everyone who cares to read this), of the need for internet safety.  Some of you list your age, the city/state where you live and even post a picture of yourself.

Please, please, please be careful not to reveal too much personal information.  There is no way to know who may possibly be reading about you and your pets.

I am a high school administrator and constantly remind my students of what a wonderful thing the internet is and the many forms of communication that it facilitates.  Unfortunately, I must also remind each of my students to be very aware of the personal information they reveal.  So too, as adults, we must also be wary and watchful.

Be safe!  Be well! Have fun on this site! And learn lots!

  • Oh goody - another ride in car....

Oh Boy!  This morning was SO exciting!Smile  Mom took me for a ride in the car and I got blessed!  It was the annual St. Francis Blessing of Animals at our church and I got to go.  It was so much fun!  There were lots of other doggies to meet and say "hello" to.  There were even a few of those things they call cats.  (Not sure about them yet. Have to try to get closer for a better inspection!).  I even my my cousin for the first time.  He is something called a guinea pig.  Short little legs on that bugger!  Certainly can't run as fast as me! (Well, maybe faster cause the doctor still won't let me run - going on 5 months of this leash nonsense).

Anyway, it was really, really fun.  I got sprayed with water and really wanted to play with the little whisky thing sprinkling me.

It was so exciting, I gotta go take a nap!  Gotta luv a Lab!

  • Toys For Power Chewers

Any suggestions for alternative toys for a power chewer?  I have been giving Mulligan Nylabones, but she seems to get some bigger pieces off which results in her throwing up.  I feed her in the morning and in the evening and the ONLY snack she gets are raw carrots.  She blew one knee last spring (ACL) and to try to keep the other from going, which is 50% torn, I try to keep her fit & trim.  She is a tall Lab, and is only about 70#.  Over the past couple of weeks she has been sick every second or third day.  I think its the Nylabone causing it, as there is usually a bit of a larger piece that comes out.

Any suggestions?  I go with the the Kongs, but unless they are filled w/ something, they get pretty boring.  She can't run yet, as she is still in the 4 month recoup stage from the surgery.  Any nylon rope toys, she just slices thru w/ her back teeth.  Forget the stuffed animals, they last all of 5 minutes.  I hate rawhides, as they can be a choking hazard.  Regualr bones, cooked or raw, are just a "surgery waiting to happen".

    Please help the Power Chewer!

  • Woohoo!

Lets all give a huge woof-woof-woof thank you to the site administrators who maintain Dog.community!  Not only has the "Oooops...." problem been fixed, but this is really a slick site!!

Finally a really cool place for people who love dogs to hang out!  Way to go!  You guys deserve the WHOLE box of biscuits!
