This was a few blocks from the shelter. The shelter's first floor was the only floor not under water. They had cramed literally hundreds of dogs that owners surrendered on their way out of town . Most kennel runs held dozens of dogs of simular sizes, the cat cages were cramed beyond comfort. Once the storm hit it was weeks before power was fully restored. I drove over and picked up the two RRS , bringing as much gas, food, water , bleach and treats for the shelter workers as I could cram in my little saturn wagon. There were people pulling in as I arrived hoping to find dogs that had been left behind or retrieve dogs they had surrendered. The laws are now changing and shelters are being required to make some type of effort to help pet owners. THIS is why crate training is beyond essential. If they have no ability to crate how on earth can they join the frightened displaced families fleeing the wrath of a storm ???
