What a day!! Sandy had her procedure at 8:15 am and they let her come home around 1:00 the same day. OMG the poor thing was sooo sick. I knew she would be sore, but I didnt think she would be so bad. When i got my beloved Maggie (rest in peace) from the Shih Tzu rescue many years ago she was already fixed, so I didnt know what to expect.
I came home from work early since my hubby was going to work and he didnt want to leave her alone. I held her for hours, she was shaking soooooo bad and drooling constantly. Side affects from coming out of the anestesia. I was soaked with drool and the blankets were soaked and I used a box of tissues wiping her mouth. She puked, and cried. YES, she cried and wined for hours. Oh my heart was breaking for her. She couldnt get comfortable and was still half asleep from the anestesia as she tried to walk, she just couldnt and stumpled around. I made her a nice bed up on the couch where she stayed the rest of the day and evening. Lots of blankets around her and I sat with her for hours (taking turns with my son) so she wouldnt roll off or try to get up. Well she finally slept soundly and i woke her up to pee, i had to carry her, then she went to bed for the night.
The next day she was still tired and still didnt eat til later on, but as the day went on she was better. Happy to report, she is her old fiesty self today and gets her stitches out next Friday.
With all the modern technology, I cant believe they still shave the entire area, cut them open and stitch them up, she must have at least 10 stitches and is cut about 3 inches long. And they gave her no pain medicine to take home. I'm just glad my husband will be taking her to get the stitches out, that wont go well, LOL..
Although she would have had adorable puppies, i'm sure this is for the best.
