kennys_mom: Abe has separation anxiety so when we do crate him he does bark. He has gotten better when we get home b/c he won't be allowed out of his crate until he stops barking and his calm. He knows b/c we will let Kenny out b/c he waits quietly in his crate and will ignore Abe.
So at home he doesn't that well but if we take them to DH's parents house we will take our portable pop up crates. Kenny of course does well but Abe does not. Some times he wrestles with that thing so much that he ends up on the other side of the room. I am worry he is going to totally bust out of it. Can you think of another option or a crate that would be light weight that Abe couldn't tear up easily?
Could you use an ex pen? Some dogs feel better if there's no "roof". Others don't do so well because they move the pen all around, as with the pop ups. Try leaving an interactive toy, such as a stuffed Kong, or a Buster Cube with kibbles in it. Anxious dogs are often hyped up for the first 20 minutes you are gone, and sometimes the toy acts as a distraction during the first critical minutes.

"The fidelity of a dog is a precious gift demanding no less binding moral responsibilities than the friendship of a human being. The bond with a true dog is as lasting as the ties of this earth can ever be." ~ Konrad Lorenz
