Neiko peed on 3 people this weekend *doh!*

I don't know what came over him! I was sooooo embarrassed. We were at the Aussie fun day (photos coming soon) and I was standing around chatting with a friend when all of a sudden she goes "What was that?! I think neiko just peed on me!" Sure enough, he lifted his leg and peed on the back of her leg.

Then I was mingling around chatting with people and another friend, who was across the field, came over and said "Neiko just christened me" DOH! Neiko peed on him too!

And if that wasn't enough, the photog that volunteered to come take pictures of the event was crouching on the ground taking pictures when she said "What the heck!" and started laughing. Neiko lifted his leg and peed on her back!!!

OMG. how totally embarrassing. He's never done anything like that before. If he was human, I'd call that passive aggressive behavior.

Marking is normal canine behavior, but he certainly needs to use posts and not humans LOL.  Is he neutered, or was he neutered late?

He was neutered at 6 months! He is in to marking things. Marking humans though is new. At least he didn't mark me lol.

Haha, that is hilarious! But embarrassing!

There was this lady at the dog park once, that was afraid of Kaiser. Everytime he walked near her or her dog, she would say "shoo!" and make waving gestures. (Everyone watch out for big bad vicious kaiser!). Anyway, later he walked up to her chair, hiked his leg and peed on her. He had never done it before, and never did it again. She was screaming at me, and was so angry. I had to stifle a laugh!

Woobie almost did this to a woman at the park recently, she noticed and moved at just the last moment.  I was mortified!!!  He was neutered very young (shelter pup) and he marks more than Indie who was neutered later.  On our walks, mark mark mark!  I think he learned it from a Weim at the dog park who is a terrible piss pot.  Pees on everything.  He's a bad influence!

Reading this thread makes me rethink the idea of getting a male in the future. I'd forgotten how bad the marking can be - ugh!

This is exactly why I dont have male dogs!!! I grew up with only male dogs and I made up my mind quickly I would only have females.

Misha did something similar at Becca's, but he peed on me! I said "Misha, what on earth do you think you're doing!" and took him to a tree and told him to pee on that instead of on me again. It was very bizarre, but luckily he didn't/hasn't done it again.

Re: Neiko peed on 3 people this weekend *doh!*

Very likely he was a bit overstimulated and feeling the need to destress (good excitement is still stressful to a dog).  It's still terribly rude.  How many times have you seen a dog deliberately mark another dog? Not accidentally peeing on them while marking over that dog's "spot", but walking right up to a dog and peeing on their leg or shoulder.  So this is a "zero tolerance" thing for me.  I also don't allow random peeing on people stuff, even outdoors.  I lead them to a tree, bush, or just stand in the grass, rather than lightposts, etc.  Sometimes you do just get a dog that's determined, but at least one has a place to start working if there's clear boundaries and an easy, right alternative.  It's easier to teach a dog "do" than "don't."  Big Smile

If I were working with Neiko, I'd watch for future signs that he was mildly hyperstimulated under similar circumstances and make sure he had a job to focus on rather than pooting around at random (stay with me, down stays, random recalls with big rewards).  At some point he'd switch from bouncing around seeking a release from tension, to seeing whether you could offer something that gave him the same relief.  It's not a permanent thing, just something to get him past the WHEEE stage that a lot of young herding dogs go through. Big Smile

I totally feel your pain.  Ted's in that phase (he's two).  He thoroughly embarrassed me this weekend when he first went off and freelanced with the sheep while the farm sitter was here, and second, slipped under the front gate to bark at our landlord who was getting stuff out of the barn (seen him a million times doing the same thing).  But, there were twice as many dogs here that weekend as usual, and I wasn't here and the housesitter was, and she's really cool and so are her dogs, and WHEEEEEE his brains apparently dropped out his ears at some point.  It's normal.

It had to be the excitement and all the smells!!  I don't have an answer but one time we were at a picnic and River walked over to my Aunt and peed in her pocketbook that was sitting beside her lawn chair.  I never saw it coming and he never did anything like that before, embarrassing yes, she was annoyed too - oh well.Embarrassed

Being intact has nothing to do it either, its just there way those males.

Ahh, good tips! I usually run him through his obedience/tricks when we're at the vets or other somewhat stressful situations so that he has something to focus on.
