Is your dog allowed on the furniture? Why/why not?

My dog is not allowed on furniture because DH would not let me have a dog inside otherwise.  As a kid we allowed our dogs on the furniture.  I have had no problem teaching my dog to stay off.

Cheyanne is allowed but only when I say it's ok. She will ask before getting on any furniture.

Lillie no because she gets on as she pleases instead of getting my ok.

Kujo is allowed anytime she wants. But if she starts getting in peoples faces she has to sit in the floor. She is getting better about that though.

Yes we allow them on invitation only -- and certain places, not.  It's their house too, is my feeling.  Your road is a bit harder -- becuase honestly no way would I have married someone with that "the only way I'll allow a dog is ..." attitude.  It just wouldn't mesh with me.

When I foster I don't allow fosters on the furniture simply because it keeps that bit of distance needed so that a foster doesn't feel like a 'failure' when he then goes to his forever home (some dogs can feel like they screwed up and got 'bounced' when the plan originally was "this is NOT your forever home -- you are a foster!")

I feel like there needs to be some boundaries -- just like I wouldn't let a teenager rub his shoes on my sofa, the dog has to be 'invited' and not when they're a muddy mess either!  But part of it for me is that I want to share my seat with them -- so it's pleasure for all.

We try to enforce being invited onto the bed with both dogs.  this is difficult because they will often jump up while we are sleeping, and Sally has the run of the bedroom while we are gone.  Other furniture is very strictly invitation only and so far Sally is the only one who has earned the right to be invited.  When DH is on the couch with the lap top she gets to go up and snuggle with daddy--he is such a sucker.Stick out tongue

Yes. Penny really does define "lap dog." She follows us on the couch and even has her own blanket to cuddle on. Penny also sleeps in my bed every night, under the covers. I think if she were a large dog, it'd be a different story. However, she's only 8-9 lbs, so no one in the family minds it.

Dogs were never allowed on the furniture on my house until Indie.  Those big brown eyes, that moochy disposition and blam! there went that rule.  I love having him lay beside me on the couch, cuddling and spooning with me when I nap.  He slept in my bed for a while but now seems to find it more comfy on the floor.  He won't lay on the dog beds for some reason.  Woobie has caught on and now lays on the loveseat.  Everything is covered in sheets now to keep control of the shedding fur.  Ahh, life with dogs.  Stick out tongue

When the people are home they are allowed up only when invited.

When the people are not home both of them lounge on the couch.

No, because we just want to keep our furniture "nice" for us to use - no hairs or scratches for example.  They have very cushty crates they use and they really have no issue with just laying on the floor at our feet.

The cat does use the sofa as a shortcut to the window and I am OK with that.  She also sleeps at the bottom of our bed during the day and I am OK with that too.

Willow was originally allowed up if we invited her.  But, lately she doesn't really ask to get up much.  If on occasion I'm out of the room and come in to find her up I usually let her stay.  She's very good about getting up if we ask her too though.

Re: Is your dog allowed on the furniture? Why/why not?

Cherokee's allowed on my bed, and on the armchair in my bedroom, but not on the couches in the living room. Why? Because they're very light colored fabric, and she's a black dog... and also she's got an oily coat..so there'd be oil spots if she hadn't had a bath in a while. Hmm When we had vinyl couches (bleh), she was allowed up when invited. And occasionally I'll put a sheet on the couch and let her up. But otherwise..no doggies on couches. If it was feasible to keep the cats off, I might. They also dirty them up. Lucifer actually rolls around in dirt in the back yard, and then comes and lays on the couch. How sweet is he. I'm not a clean-freak by any stretch, but dirty couches that are supposed to be almost white is just gross.

    Nope not mine. Embarrassed

    River at 4 months.

    Brooke every night.

    Hailie every night.

Seriously.  We did have to restrict River for awhile when we were having problems with resource guarding.  Like Willow he doesn't ask much any more but when he does, depending on the circumstance we ofter allow it.

Outside furniture - they are always allowed on that.

Only if invited and we put a big blanket down. I just don't want guests to have to sit in piles of dog hair if they stop by. Besides that, if Sassy lays out on the couch, she takes up almost the whole thing and there's no room for me Confused

Charlie is because he knows how to 'ask' to get up on it with me.

Ham and Frankie are usualy not but I will relent sometimes and allow them up but only on my terms and they always know that when I say its time to get down then they had better get down.

Yup, Apollo is allowed on the couches and our bed. I'm a vacuum fanatic (I vacuum at least once a day) so the hair really isn't a problem, and if you tell him "get down" he hops down and will go to one of his 2 beds without a problem. If guests are over he never attempts to go up on the couch next to them, he's pretty respectful of people.

Nope..they are not allowed on the furniture. I love my dogs, but I really can't stand dog hair on the furniture or in my bed.
