Does your family love your dogs like you do?

I ask this because I had a scare last night when we got home from the zoo.

Kujo managed to slip out the door as JJ was locking up for our trip to the zoo. We didnt see her obviously otherwise I would have put her back into the house. I go to take care of the animals when we got home and get everyone ready for bed. I holler for Kujo as I go inside. No Kujo. I'm thinking ok she is using the bathroom when she is done she will come to the door. I get Samantha ready for bed and she asks for Kujo. I go to let Kujo in and still no Kujo. I start calling for her and looking around the yard. Well the neighbor comes out and tells me that he had called the police earlier that day because someone was in my yard trying to catch Kujo. The police came and scared them off.

Well the people trying to get her was JJ's aunt and uncle. They were trying to get her because they didnt want her to get hit by a car or anything. They knew we wasnt home and we would have never left her out like that. So they called JJ's mom and she came and got Kujo. Kujo wouldnt go to his aunt and uncle but loves Grandma to death so they knew she would go to her.

BUT she could have left a damn note!!!! Samantha was bawling her eyes out because she though someone had taken her dog. Good news though Kujo was safe and sound and I have a watchful neighbor!!!

So does your family think about your dogs enough to make sure they will be safe if your not around?

well, i live alone with the dogs. but simply put: no!!

i DO trust my sister with the dogs. she isnt aware as i am, but i know she can follow instructions, so when she is taking care of them, i just once in a while instruct her on the things to be aware of!

she does love them ALOT! but she's young, and they arent her dogs, so.... the rest of my family thinks i am nuts... Big Smile

No. They do love them, and they'll watch the puppy for a day or two at a time. Emma can't really be left with any family. I do have two friends who could look after her for a short time. She's high activity, high anxiety, and a little difficult to handle, if you aren't me. She stresses my mom out, so much, they both end up in a mess, LOL.

Not quite as much, but close.  I tend to worry more than DH, so I always make sure he remembers to check things before he leaves the house, but other than that he's aware of their needs and watches them well.  My parents like the dogs and have said they will take Maggie if something happens to me, but they are careful mostly because she means so much to me.

Nope. My parents think he's a burden and my brother thinks he's stupid. I do have to trust my parents take care of him while I'm at school though. They'll do that, but he's nothing more than a dog to them.

    No

The DH loves them but not in the same way. If they died he would cry and move on, most likely in one day.

I joke with him about our will telling him if I die he must find good homes for both the dogs as they will not survive living with him alone.

One of my sons is the same as the DH and the other one loves all animals and has a close relationship with Hektor.

Yup! They sure do :) My mom adores my two as well as my brother's dog. She isn't too keen on my sister's dogs though lol. My brother loves ollie and otto, especially ollie. My dad adores my two especially ollie as well. My sister and brother in law love them both. I think otto's favorite person is actually my brother in law and not even me. They are well cared for when I have left them in the past (for interviews and whatnot).

They care about him, but I am the one that loves him dearly and cares for all his needs.

I asked JJ this morning what would he do with Cheyanne and Lillie if I died all of a sudden. He said he would keep Cheyanne because she is an easy keeper but find Lillie another home. He couldnt meet her needs with having to take care of Samantha and work too. Even if he could he wouldnt because he is lazy Angry.

They think I'm crazy for home cooking for them and although I know they care for and love the dogs, it's definitely not to the extent that I do.

My husband does, but not the rest of the family. My mom likes Shiner but doesn't care too much for the shelties, DH's mom likes them ok, but she can't take too much of them, and my dad loves dogs, has three of his own, but lives four states away and has only met my dogs once.

    Shiner - Border Collie
Muffin and Pookie - the kitties

Re: Does your family love your dogs like you do?

lol I think everyone's family here has the same mentality; they love the dog if it didn't come with responsibility!

as with everyone else, my family loves my dog dearly and spoils her more than i do via obliging to her begging for food!  but since she's my dog, she's my responsibility and i do everything: take her to the vet, give her meds, bathe her, feed her, etc.

however, one day i was gone for a few hours and left coco home with the family.... I came home to find her food bowl FULL of doggy biscuits!

turns out she ate all her kibbles, and my father, instead of putting more kibble in her bowls, filled it with treats instead!  needless to say, she was very happy that day!

    funny, senile old man.

No - BUT they love me enough that they know that if something happened to one of my dogs I would be devastated so yes they would go and catch my dog and keep it safe until I got home.

My DH and I share the same deep love for Thor, Luke and Zarina.

My mom loves her three grandkids (she call them "nietos" in spanish) and she always ask for them when we speak. Thor adores his "abuelita" and he is so sweet and delicate with her, you can't believe it!!

My brother and DH bros know how much we love them, and they all like them, but not in the same "crazy" way we do Stick out tongue

Re: Does your family love your dogs like you do?

I don't think Molly would trust anyone to even go to them. But then again she's not outside when we aren't home so this wouldn't  happen.

I don't think anyone would even attempt to open the door if we weren't home. Chances are Molly would back down (especially if a squeaky toy was tossed for her) if someone did speak harshly to her and then came in leaving the door open but I don't think she'd leave the house.

She has gone outside with DH when he's working outside, and when she wants to come in she goes to the front door and waits for me to notice her. She doesn't run off though
