    Big step...

I folded up Ben's crate today, it will be going in the attic later when I go up there.  He doesn't even use it much anymore and it was taking up floor space which is at a premium in my small house...but it still seems like a big thing...we've had it since a few days after he came home to us.

He sleeps in the living room and spends short periods alone there as well if I am out.  Long periods alone he spends in the kitchen....so really it's not necessary, he sleeps in it only out of choice, and I do trust him in the house.

I wonder what I'm going to do when I vacuum though, which he hates.  Maybe put him in the bathroom?

    Wish us luck! LOL.

Yay Ben! I'm sure you'll find it liberating Wink  Bugsy always chose to sleep in his crate at night..........until our UK trip last September when he was kenneled for 8 nights.  After watching him sleep just outside the door for a few weeks, I moved on. We have the luxury of having a third floor so I put it up there as a just in case.  If we watch a movie up there he will sometimes choose to sleep in it, but it is more and more rare.

What does he do when you vacuum?  B hates it but he just follows me around as if protecting me in case it decides to attack me Indifferent  If he really needs seperation I would put him in the bathroom with a gate across or may be even in a sit stay?

Aww, Ben's all grown up!  Congrats on his wonderful behavior, and like Karen said, I'm sure it's a liberating feeling.  Ben's such a good boy!

    Congratulations to Ben.

Aren't those crates a pain in the neck to clean around? I pulled Barney's out of the kitchen about a month ago.  It was so big I had to dismantle it to get it out. He had a touch of withdrawals.  He kept all his "special" toys in there, hidden under his blankies, where no other dog dared to enter.  But I think he's adjusted now and has free reign of the house when nobody's home.

Vacuuming?  Barney's the opposite, he'll follow me around, very attracted to any kind of appliance (especially intrigued with the paper shredder).    I think I created a monster when I treat-trained him for the hair dryer.  Maybe you could try that.
