    Yellow Fur

My new papillon has yellow fur from just being dirty I guess. Do I trim it? Bleach it? What brand works for shampooing?

Definately don't try to bleach your puppy. There are specialty dog shampoos for white dogs. I just use ones that I think smell good LOL and they do a great job of keeping my dogs brilliant white. I think Gina mentioned once that you can use that old lady shampoo to get them white, I forget what it's called. For your name, I'd contact one of the admins and ask them to change it for you. The admins I can remember are Benedict, mball, and amstaffy.

I'd start with a whitening shampoo.  I've found they worked pretty well on Indie's white parts.  I tried the old lady stuff FanciFull but it didn't really work for his set in stains.  If you do try it, don't be shocked, it's blue, but it rinses out!  Big Smile  You want to be careful with a pup so you don't use anything too harsh and hurt her skin.  Rinsing her off with plain water when she's done playing might help keep the stains from setting into her fur.

Chris Cristensen's White On White is the best whitening shampoo I've ever used. It's available from chrissystems.com. It is a product designed for show dogs, so it is not cheap, and it isn't something meant for frequent use (they have a Day to Day shampoo for frequent use, I wash Ena in it!), but it's pretty great.

    Yellow Fur

My new 9 week old papillon has stringy yellow fur on her elbows down. I've washed her with Johnson's baby shampoo, and that helped a little bit. But what do I do? She syill has the color. I really want her to have briliiant white fur. Everyone is saying to use the old lady's whitening shampoo, but never say what brand, or what it's called.

    Re: Yellow Fur

You have to be very gentle with your furkid due to the age,  when a bit older you can use whitening products but not really right now.  With our dalmation I have used a 1/2 cup of regular bleach in the FULL tub of bath water, she was always brilliantly white.  With my Papillion I used beauty products called Bluing it is for older White Haired women and men, you can go to any beauty supply place and ask the ladies there for the most GENTLE available and instructions, but again wait a bit before you use it on the little girl.   It is a shampoo and you leave it in the hair NOT on the skin.  Lucky the paps have such long feathers on their legs it is not that hard to do....

One last suggestion, with long haired pups the desire to wash them frequently is there but not a good idea.  You can develope an allergy or contact dermatitis if you strip all natural oils from the skin and hair.  Many of the Handlers we know showing a white coated breed use talc to both whiten and fluff .  With puppies it is all things in moderation...

Any pictures of her??  How about her name, come on share Wink
