tashakota:But I don't pick so much as fidget. I have a compulsive drive to run my fingers along hems of shirts or felt-like material in which I either destroy the hem or material or I catch a nail so many times I can then tear off the end.
Would LOVE to be able to stop doing this because it makes my shoulders hurt and my thumbs! Yet I can't stop! I constantly cross my arms so I can fidget with the hems of my sleeves! I should wear all tailored button down shirts instead of knit tops so I can't do it. At work, my wrist rest is a felt-like material and I have "fidgeted" with it so much that it's a bit rough now. If I wear gloves, the desire goes away. Would like to find a pair of thin gloves to wear all the time until the conditioning is over.
I have a "texture thing" too. Hard to explain, I scratch material against the grain, my own finger print ridges.
I have to be doing "something" as a child I sucked my thumb, which grew into chewing my hair (maybe oral fixation is a better word
) then playing with (twirling) my hair and now grinding my teeth when I am awake. If I am eating, I don't play with my hair or grind my teeth. I guess I am a 'tense' person?
I am not a neat freak at home, but around my horse I am very very meticulous. He is cleaned until he shines, my tack is clean, my boots are clean and all my storage units are organized.
I am a task master when I make the decision to do something, I have to get stuff done IF I stop it won't get done for a LONG time.
Maybe not tense maybe too much nervous energy. Funny thing that ALL goes out the window when I ride, otherwise I would pass it to the horses. I can not electrify a horse if my life depended on it.
