    Spaying - Laser

I had Bonnie spayed yesterday morning, I opted for doing it with Laser, no stiches or anything, she is doing well.  Sleeping  a lot and not moving around much.  She ate a good breakfast and took her pain meds and has been sleeping every since.  So glad that is over for her. Laser cost more but it was sure worth it.

Laser!  I didn't even know they could do that?  Onyx was up and about the same day of her spay.  I had to make her take it easy, and she didn't have any pain meds.  She was also spayed immediately out of a heat, which I thought was going to have an effect on things.  What kind of a recovery time does a normal spay take?

Oh, and good quick healing vibes to  Bonnie!

Glad everything worked out OK for Bonnie.  I would have gone with a laser too given that choice.  It just seems like down time/recovery time would be much less without cutting.

I didn't know they could do it without cutting either. Cheza is going to be spayed soon, so I will have to look and see if that is an option.

Heal well & fast, Miss Bonnie Blue, you cutie!!

When I had Snickers neutered my vet used surgical glue to close his incision.  Wow, what a difference it made in healing.  It seemed like it was just a few days & he was almost completely healed.  It was amazing.

The vet we used to take my dog Goliath, before we moved to another town offers laser surgery now.  I don't really know my feelings on it, as I don't know much about it.

She is doing well, taking it easy.  She has pain meds for another two days.  I don't even have to take her back unless there would be a problem.  There is just a small round pink mark on her tummy that bulges a little where they did it. Looks almost like a little belly button.  She is supposed to be kept pretty quiet for l4 days, no jumping on stuff and no stairs.  The only problem right now she is having is her stools are hard and she yipes when passing them.  I'll have to give her something for that.

    Re: Spaying - Laser

Just a note, using a laser doesn't mean there is no cutting. It is just cut using the laser. It does reduce bleeding, and they likely used internal sutures and some skin glue to close the incision.  Spay incisions are so tiny these days, no matter how the surgery is done, that the dog is just left with a tiny mark.

We do laser tumor removals at work, which really does help cut down on bleeding. Especially on the dogs with huge surface tumors that have been growing for some time.

    Re: Spaying - Laser

When Bella was spayed we opted for laser.  Two weeks later she had a reaction to the internal stitches and had to have a second surgery to remove those.  So unfortunately for us, the laser wasn't as easy on her as we had hoped.
