My friend and I tried w/ her husky pup at Home Depot and the manager informed us that it was NOT allowed b/c it may frighten people (including our cashier) and the it was a common misconception that he wished people would quit passing on

Steph, I did the same thing. I tried to walk Cheza in the garden area at home depot and I was told she wasn't allowed. I have seen people with really little dogs there before though, so I was thinking maybe they only allow (or at least don't say anything to) little dog owners.

I have taken Kenya to Home Depot, BUT it was for a pet therapy training course.  At least the ones in our area host our local pet therapy group's training program.  Maybe that's why people *think* dogs are allowed, b/c they see pet therapy dogs there?  The allow us to use a back room as a "classroom" and then do some tests in the store, like making sure the male dogs will not mark in the garden center, or testing the dogs' reaction to a dead sea sponge.

I've heard that Tractor Supply Co DOES allow dogs and my friend has gone there with her dog to practice training.

It's kinda frustrating.  Have you tried, or do you know, if Lowes will let you?

We've taken ours to eat at the outside seating at Panera, it was nice....took awhile to finish eating though since people kept stopping to pet and talk about the dogs Smile

I haven't tried Lowes yet. Panera is a good idea! I always forget about the outside area.

That's funny, I wonder if it's a Maryland thing! My aunt used to take her husky to Home Depot in Annapolis alllll the time, and the employees would fawn all over her, and were always happy to see them. And then one day they posted a sign, and Selene wasn't allowed in anymore.. So it seems to me they changed the rules, not that people mistakenly thought they were allowed.

I see dogs in Home Depot here every time I go. I've only ever seen one with any kind of training/service vest.

I've taken my dog into Lowe's and they didn't say anything to me.  Two or three employees came up and greeted Sam and chatted for a bit.  I always heard Home Depot does not allow dogs but Lowe's does.

I just hope he gets over being sick in the car so I can take him on weekend trips easier.

Motion sickness remedies (first 3 are human meds; last is not a med):

    Desensitization exercises (treat afterwards):

    • get in the car and right back out - doors open
    • sit in motionless car with motor off for increasing times - doors open
    • sit in motionless car with motor running for increasing times - doors open
    • sit in motionless car with motor running for increasing times - doors closed
    • drive to end of driveway and back
    • go around the block
    • gradually increase the trip distance

The goal of the exercises is to give the dog a series of good experiences in the car. If the dog gets sick every time he gets in the car, then he expects to get sick. That cycle needs to be broken.

Our tractor supply allows dogs. Wyatt has been in with me many times.

I don't know about citizen dogs, but Ireland has an INSANE quarantine!

The incubation period for rabies is generally considered to be 2-weeks to 6-months for dogs (1-week to over a year for people).

You can avoid Ireland's 6-month quarantine now if you are traveling from these countries (includes U.S.) and have carefully followed a set of rules.

Among other things the rules have you basically serving the 6-month quarantine before you leave home.  The sequence is

    • microchip
    • rabies shot
    • successful blood test for rabies antibodies
    • 6-month wait (verify no incubating rabies)

If there is a "break" in vaccinations, one must repeat the last two steps, but I haven't researched their definition of "break".  I think most (if not all) members of the European Union are now following this same procedure.

According to California's Dept. of Health Services, a rabies incubation period of 19 years in people has been reported.

It takes some time (the "incubation period") before a person exposed to rabies develops symptoms. The incubation period for rabies can vary. It can be anywhere from a week to over a year. An incubation period as long as 19 years has been reported. However, it usually lasts about one to two months. The incubation period varies, depending on the amount of virus introduced into the body and the distance the virus has to travel from the site of exposure to the central nervous system (CNS). The closer the bite is to the CNS, the shorter the incubation period. Bites to the head and neck are usually associated with an incubation period of less than one month.

And how many of us have done the Lowe's and Home Depot thing?  I know I will eat at an outdoor table/cafe any day over somewhere indoors if the weather is nice and I can bring a dog or two.

I bring my 8 month old rottweiler into home depot, probably about once a month, the home depot here is great for letting people bring in their dogs. When he was a puppy, it used to take forever to get through the store to get the one lightbulb or whatever we needed, we would have all sorts of people coming up and wanting to pet him - now that hes larger, some people still want to pet him, but not nearly as many. I am also going to bring him to outdoor cafes this summer. I just hope he gets over being sick in the car so I can take him on weekend trips easier.

My Rottie was the same way....DRAMAMINE works wonders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
