He is not aggressive, however he was never taught how to properly behave around other dogs. He's very smart, and right now to the point that he's got a very solid foundation of obedience training. He sits, downs, stays and heels. He has been trained in name recognition and will give you his attention if you ask for it(even if other dog is around). He can and will perform all his obedience behaviors around another dog. But when it comes time that he must interact, he is VERY rude. He gets right into their faces, bites and nips. He chases them as well. To the untrained eye, I'm sure he looks aggressive. He'll be obeying fine, but then will suddenly lunge at another dog. No growling, no hair being raised, now lip curling. Just lunge and bite in the face, and then try to chase and play. He has been corrected by a large lab, but he has not learned.
Right now he's simply unpredictable. I have corrected for the lunging, and worked on attention exercises in which he had to sit still and make eye contact with another dog circling and walking around us. And I have even tried to let him interact with dogs that I know would correct him. He can and will sometimes eventually settle down in the presence of another dog, but that is usually after he's gotten a bit of his energy worn out from lunging.
And perhaps the hardest part in correcting his behavior? I can only work with him 1-3 times a week, and for the rest he is cooped up in a kennel and others that deal with him throughout the week do nothing to enforce his obedience and let him behave terribly.
