    PetGuard Lifespan, Again!

I just hate that i'm such a waffler!

I happen to be feeding sojo's stillI and have a month or more left of it to feed/rotate to,  but I also have about 8 lbs or so of leftover petguard lifespan kibble that I intended to feed eventually. (I've always liked how the dogs did on petguard).  I decided to use  up the leftover petguard, so I have been feeding it for a few days.  But I am always wishing I had a food to use occasionally rotating with it that the dogs did great on (which my main thing now is that the food won't cause tear/beard staining).   Just today, I was looking at petguard's webpages and discovered they removed the CORN from the formula!!

The dogs do great on lifespan anyway, but I have always wanted something without corn. And now I just noticed, no more menadione either!

    Anyway, new ingredient list:

    INGREDIENTS:
Fresh Chicken, Chicken Meal, Ground Whole Brown Rice, Oatmeal, Chicken Fat Preserved With Vitamins C and E (Natural Mixed Tocopherols), Whole Eggs, Dried Carrots, Dried Celery, Dried Sweet Potatoes, Sunflower Oil, Ester-C (Source of Vitamin C), Garlic Powder, Dried Kelp, Alfalfa Meal, Monosodium Phosphate, Potassium Chloride, Taurine, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Vitamin A Acetate, D-Alpha Tocopherol (Source of Vitamin E Supplement), D-Activated Plant Sterol (Source of Vitamin D2), Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement (Vitamin B2), Choline Chloride, Inositol, Niacin, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Source of Vitamin B6), Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Calcium Amino Acid Chelate, Iron Amino Acid Chelate, Folic Acid, Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Cobalt Amino Acid Chelate, Sodium Selenite.

The old ingredient list: (bold mine)

    LifeSpan INGREDIENTS:
Fresh Chicken, Chicken Meal, Ground Whole Brown Rice, Ground Whole Yellow Corn, Oatmeal, Chicken Fat Preserved With Vitamins C and E (Natural Mixed Tocopherols), Whole Eggs, Dried Carrots, Dried Celery, Dried Sweet Potatoes, Sunflower Oil, Ester-C (Source of Vitamin C), Garlic Powder, Dried Kelp, Alfalfa Meal, Monosodium Phosphate, Potassium Chloride, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Vitamin A Acetate, D-Alpha Tocopherol (Source of Vitamin E Supplement), D-Activated Plant Sterol (Source of Vitamin D2), Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement (Vitamin B2), Choline Chloride, Inositol, Niacin, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Source of Vitamin B6), Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Calcium Amino Acid Chelate, Iron Amino Acid Chelate, Folic Acid, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (Source of Vitamin K), Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Cobalt Amino Acid Chelate, Sodium Selenite.

Can't wait to try a new bag - and if it works I won't have to worry so much about cooking for them all the time!  Come be excited with me LOL!!

Why o why must I be so obsessive?  I had been looking at Innova again but they just get gassy and loose stool from it.  So this makes me happy!!

    Re: PetGuard Lifespan, Again!

Whoohoo!!  no corn or menadione! (we are a bunch of dog food geeks, arent we?)

That looks like  a great food. Are your bichon girls picky eaters? I would like to maybe try that food, but Jetta hates most dog foods. It has no barley, flax, etc so I think she could probably eat it (except Im not sure if she has an allergy to sunflower oil or not....)

I tried homecooking for Jetta too but I worried I wasnt doing it right, so I like to mix kibble with healthy people food toppers. Right now she is on Royal Canin Chihuahua (one of the few formulas without corn or glutens) and she is actually doing better on this food than any other food we have tried. And trust me, I have tried a lot! Her face staining is much less on royal canin.

Hope the new petguard works well!

    Re: PetGuard Lifespan, Again! UPDATE

Meh, I think Darby may have changed my mind for me.  They've been eating the leftover lifespan for a couple weeks now and she has 2 yeasty ears, yeast in her lipfolds and inbetween her toes again! Ugh.

I guess I can't be lazy anymore, it seems like she only does well on sojos/home prepared, which is ok, but I guess I'm always hoping I'm going to find that perfect kibble.

Thought I'd share. I'm not so excited anymore :(

     Too bad!

How can you tell if your dog has a yeast infection? I wonder if my dog has ever had that. Her skin is much better than it used to be, but sometimes her ears smell funky...
