    Hound on board

Hello everyone. New to the dog.com community. Would love to converse with other hound parents and any of you who have an interest in tracking or search and rescue.

    Re: Hound on board

Hi there! We don't do tracking, but only because I can't find anyone around here who will teach it to a "hobbyist". I don't have time for SAR unfortunately. I did do a one day seminar in AKC-style tracking once with my coonhound and he loved it and was a natural. I'd love to do more of it. As it is right now we're sticking with agility.

    Re: Hound on board

We bought the SAR handbook and have been using it as a training reference for "Z" and so far she shows potential. We have completed all the sight "go find" exercises and have just begun to expand to out of sight hide and find. It is very exciting to see her work to find the scent by air scenting and then to follow the scent to the person. The only problem I have is keeping up with her. We have been working on getting her to go ahead on the trail and turn and come back to lead us up the trail. That way we will always be able to follow her.

Hi & welcome to the board!  I love hounds.  I'm pretty sure that my boy is a lab/hound mix.  You can see him in both my avatar & signature.
