    my dog accidently got pregnant.

she is a miniature bull terrier and he is a NEWFIE. she looks like she's pretty close to the end, well 2-3 weeks left or so. We're scared that she wont be able to birth the puppy(ies).  any advice?

She likely will not be able to give birth to these pups, or even carry them to term withou serious issues.  I'd suggest talking to your vet about an emergency spay/abortion.

Ditto to what Glenda said!!!  This pregnancy should be terminated ASAP.

If you decide to continue the pregnancy, get her to the vet for a C-section the second she goes into labor (or earlier if the vet advises it).  Early labor is likely with such a big father, so the survival of the pups is very questionable no matter what you do.  The average gestation is 63 days from the date of ovulation.

The mismate shot is evidently out of favor due to the increased risk of pyometra.  Prostaglandin F2alpha can be used if a pregnancy is confirmed 30 days after mating.  The treatment takes 4 days.

Several changes that may be noticeable in the bitch the last week before delivery include a distended, 'dropped' abdomen, enlarged and softened vulva, enlarged nipples, and full mammary glands.  Taking her temperature at least twice a day the last 10 days before the delivery date is also helpful.  Some bitch's temperatures will drop below 99°F within 24 hours of delivery.  This may not be seen in all bitches, but is another indicator.  Loss of appetite and nervousness (pacing, panting) alternating with sleep also indicate the time is near.

How big is your female?  About how many pounds?   If she is a small dog I would be VERY worried.

Having these pups could kill her.   They may be too big to pass thru the birth canal.  I would take her to the

vet for an x-ray.   The vet will be able to see how many pups there are and just how big they are.   Then you

will know what you are dealing with.   He may want to schedule her for a C-section before she goes into labor.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!   Let us know how she is doing.  I hope all goes well.

Any update on your baby?    Did she have the pups yet?

    Hope she is doing OK.
