    Good Poo!!!

As some of you may know Tyler hs been sick with diarhea since late Spring. He went from 75lbs down to 49lbs (scary, eh?) Surprise He has been treated for Giardia, whips and IBD/SIBO. After all that it was determined that he ended up with EPI. We switched his food to novel protein and carb and generally have pulled our hair out, worried sick the whole time.

The good (no make that Great) news is that he seems to be on the mend. I purchased a product that seems to have done the trick. It is Total-Zymes and Total-Biotics. After 24 hours he had his first normal poo and it has stayed that way. One feeding I forget to add the powder and we had the runs again, so that clinched it in my book. He has stopped (for the most part) eating his poo and anything else not nailed down. He begs much less for food, thus he must be getting that satisfied feeling from his feedings. He also, oddly enough, is chewing and licking/scratching much less. And he is acting like his old self again.Yes

Anyone else have such wonderful results from digestive enzyme supplementation? Just curious-

This sounds familiar! My husky is going through the same thing. I have tried it all and treated her for just about everything. I recently started to add Missing Link to her food and her appetite has improved. She is also having less runny poo problems - but they are still there - it's just not as bad as it was.

So, I feel your pain and your excitement over good poo, believe me!

I myself have IBS, and when I remember to take my digestive enzymes before eating, I do much better.  I'll keep the above products in mind if Ems ever has these issues. :)

So happy that the poo is looking better!  (and, yes, we furmoms and -dads know how important that is!)

May I ask what EPI is? Lord I feel your pain..... I get so tired of check rear ends around here.....I have a Scottie with IBD.... Iv got a Westie with IBS..... and my other 2 Westies since getting older are having issues with food ... Its to long of a story to get into....

I got FortiFlora from my vet to add to there food and that has helped my IBD dog a lot and I use digesitve enyzmes as well. Its gotten to the point I had to take the dogs off there food and go with a bland diet of science diet I/d.... Im not slowly getting them on NB Duck and Potato and praying good poop ... That is all I want for Xmas Santa is a year of good poop from my dogs...LOL All kidding aside.. Its enough to make a person completely insane.....

I am curious what products you tried that didn't work.  It would be interested to identify the differences, but proprietary issues may interfere with that.

    http://www.total-zymes.com

Total-Zymes® is the most complete pet digestive enzyme product in the world, utilizing 14 high performance plant based enzymes. Its benefits have proven results with dogs, cats, and horses.

Total-Biotics is a groundbreaking pet probiotic formula. Our proprietary blend of 11 live species of Pro-Biotics, and FOS was specially designed to seed your pet’s digestive system with beneficial bacteria to assist and assure healthy digestion and build a strong immune system.

Both of our products contain LEADS® (Live Enzyme Activated Delivery System®). LEADS®, first used as an ingredient in human nutrition, insures complete digestion and nutrient delivery of all your pet's food at a cellular level. No other animal supplement or nutrition product can offer this unique advantage to your pet.

    Re: Good Poo!!!

Sory I haven't answered back - family crisis involving a broken back (not me). Anyway...

I tried several different feeds and am now sticking with TOTW Pacific Stream. For the meds we did the motronidazole, Panacur (I think) powder, and steroids, etc. I used the following supplements: Missing Link, ProZyme and another brand from the vet (forget the name) and fed yogurt with active live cultures.

I can tell you I checked the labels and did my own comparison of the supplements. The total Zyme and Total Biotics had all the others beat by a mile if you compared types of enzymes and especially the amount/concentrations of each enzymes/probiotic.

Sorry if this is not very helpful. It has been a long stack of months and once we got on the right track my mind seems to have forgotten all about the ones that did not work for Tyler. If you do think about ordering some I can give you a tip to assist with the dosage "math": the scoop holds 1/4 tsp if filled to level. So 1/4 tsp treats 1 cup of food (any form - RAW, kibble, etc). Thusly, Tyler gets one cup kibble 3x day. He gets one scoop (1/4tsp) per feed so he takes a total of 3/4 of each powder per day. The rough math worked out to each jar should last me 3 months.
