    Spay Recovery and Travel

Hi All! Me again (and again... and again)

Since Harley is officially mine, I am scheduling her to get spayed. My vet can get her done this week (Most likely Friday since I can get that day off).

Now my question is, how long usually is the recovery? My vet said 10-15 days. Silly me forgot to ask does that mean the stitches come off in 10-15 days? (I will ask tomorrow for sure).

And my ultimate concern about this is that we would have to travel to NorCal for Thanksgiving. Would she be able to travel then? After getting spayed? (its like a 5-6 hour drive... depending on the traffic maybe 7-8 hrs at worst... and since its a holiday... I bet there is). If the stitches are off by then... should she be able to travel? (I know I will be asking my vet this also Q_Q but I like to hear your guys' opinion).

I really want to get this done ASAP just because I do not know her heat schedule and I need to get her license (without paying up the yinyang for it when I want her spayed anyway) so that we can go back to the dog park. But if it is better to wait until after Thanksgiving, then I will, for her sake.

Thank you in advance for the responses!

    Re: Spay Recovery and Travel

When the stitches are out, I see no reason why she would not be able to travel with you if you give her potty breaks. Spip kept her stitches only a week but your vet could decide to leave them in a couple of days more I guess. Friday sounds really good since you can take off and would have the whole next two days to stay with her too and it would give her plenty of time to recover before the trip.

Congratulations on getting Harley for good. .

    Re: Spay Recovery and Travel

    Thank you!

I just scheduled her for a Spay, microchip, and ear cleaning this Friday. The vet said they usually keep the stitches on for 14 days. Which works out great and is just in time for her boosters.

I'm nervous but I know she needs to get this done. (and the incentive to get it done for a dog license is pretty motivating!)
