    Other strange doggie sounds

My Chinese Crested Hairless screams when she yawns.  It's loud, it's very high pitched.  Strangers who have never heard her before are certain that she's injured herself.  Anyone else out there got a CC?  Does yours do that?

And , of course, my Chis do the Chihuahua honk that sounds like an asthma attack. Anyone know for sure what causes that?  I've read that it is because they are so darned close to the ground that dust, etc. gets in their noses.

     Any other weird vocalizations?

When my husky blocks my aussie from moving around the house, the aussie will lay down and make this child like complaining noise. I can't even describe it, it's so funny. It's almost a whine and a grumble put together. One day I'm going to record it and post it.

Sheila talks to us. She hasn't mastered words, but she makes herself clear.

"Good morning, Sheila, did you sleep well?"

    "Bawar-woo-lee-wee."

"Ah, so are you happy to be inside?"

    "Lee-bow-roo-woo."

    and so on.

Dinner time is the best. She'll yell at you to get the dish, hurry up, hey, that's not enough food, I'm still hungry. feed me again! It's very funny.

Patriot on the other hand, communicates more with body language/facial expression and his eyes. He's just as expressive, but less vocal.

Jaia "sings"... Every morning, he sings. And even though DH has stopped "greeting" him, he still sings. This film was taken months ago, but this is what wakes me up nearly every day:

    Jaia sings and B'asia Spins

Haha. I was going to click on it too but I think I will wait until I get home :)

Harley does this sound which is like blowing air out of her nose, kind of like a horse or a bull about to charge. She only does it under door cracks when she knows someone is on the other side.

She also has this weird, throaty grunt like sound when she sleeps. She doesnt do it all the time, but I think only if she is dreaming.

I forgot about that--Sheila sings along to old country music with me. (She sounds sort of pained about it though. =P)

    Strange noises.....

I've already discussed Remi the wonder-groaner, who groans in conversation.

My Gaci has a wide range of noises. She too often "yips" when she yawns. It's not too loud, but high pitched. She also usually only does it after "happy" yawns, like waking up in the morning, waking up after a nap, excited to go for a walk, etc. Not during stress yawns. She also talks back to me. Sometimes if I tell here something is "Mine", or to get "off", she'll talk back in some sort of whine/woo-woo/thing. Reminds me of a teenager mumbling when a parent chastises it.

Kamara is the queen of conversation, daughter to the famous Remi-grunter. She woo's, waaa's, whines, screams (at other dogs mostly), and also has entire conversations..minus the grunts. You know her when you hear her.

Some of our guys do the "backwards sneeze" thing, I think that's what you are referring to with your Chi's?

You also are prone to hear the "Schnauzer chorus" if you're at our house at least once daily. This is the synchronized, opera-worthy howling of 12 Schnauzers baying/wooing/howling in unison. They have their own octaves, pitch, and timing, to make a beautiful song. Tends to be heard best at daybreak or dusk, with occasional mid-day turns if there is something particular exciting going on. Relegated to outdoors only.

Grey groans for everything, but he makes this really loud "aaaawooooooooooooooow" when he yawns. Sometimes, I think he can draw out a yawn for a full minute lol.

Can I have my 4000-something posts back? Pretty please?

ha ha Bugsy makes this really high pitched yawn sound that is very human and he too draws them out!

I didn't join the grunting post but he stretches and yawns in the morning then rolls around on the carpet making grunting and other strange pig like sounds

then when he is ready to go out ( he waits until I start the coffee pot) does like Jaia and goes inbetween your legs over and over until you go out to get the paper.

the noise he makes that cracks me up is he sighs, heavily.  he sighs a sad mournful you never do anything with me sigh and he does the whew I can finally sleep sigh, etc

the sighs just crack me up  - especially the harumph - whatever sighGeeked

I know every time our dal yawns, there's this really high pitched squel, like wind whistleing thru a crack. And CARLA,you are so funny with your comment about your husbands legs and slippers!

They ask so little and give so much!

When Bevo gets frustrated, he sighs.  There is nothing like being in a training class where things aren't going well, & having to listen to your sarcastic dog sighing in frustration.

Shooters used to whine this annoying high pitched whine, when he was waiting for food.  We nipped that in the bud, with a "quiet" command.

    Re: Other strange doggie sounds

Crusher makes typical husky music.  He roo roos and groans.  Howls and chatters.  Anyone that has a husky is usually familiar with these sounds, but people that don't think its amazing.  He will copy syllables and sounds to a certain extent.  If you tip your head back and say, "I Love You," he will reply with,"Ra Ruh Rooooooo."  The first time my mom heard it she gasped and before she could stop herself she said,"Do it again."  Pffft and she pretends not to be impressed with my dogs...LOL
