    Ready for agility?

I just posted an article on German Shepherd Central about preparing your dog for agility training:

"Is Your Dog Ready For Agility Training?"

Most of the people in my classes are graduates of my basic manners/obedience class, but agility is such a popular sport that it's many folks' first point of contact with dog training. The great thing about agility is that almost any dog can do it on some level.

    It's not a dog, it's a German Shepherd.

    Re: Ready for agility?

Thanks for the article. I was actually really surprised to find that in our beginner agility class, Marlowe's the only one that has an off-leash "sit until released". I thought we'd be the least obedience-trained dog in the class (Marlowe is trained to CGC level but that's pretty much it) but actually I think we may be the most.

Maxine did her first agility course at age of nine. She has done weave poles she doesn't like them so I don't make her. Your dog is never to old for fun.

    Re: Ready for agility?

the most popular class at our training club is "obedience for agility" open to pups aged 4 months to 15 years, no prerequistes. People who would be bored to tears teaching stays in an obedience class suddenly get all excited about teaching their dog to stay on the table or in front of a tunnel.
