    Headaches

Lately I have been having these chronic headaches. They will last a day, really bad for about 12 hours and then the next day it will be a dull pain but not too bad. Then I will go for two or three days with nothing and then they come back again. It's hard because it affects me a lot, making me not want to eat, lethargic. Has anyone ele experienced anything like this?

    Re: Headaches

i'm not sure if what you are discribing might be migraine.

but there are many reasons why someone might get headaches like this. i have it sometimes, and it is usually a matter of finding out what is causing them.

    some reasons could be:

dehydration: this is a problem i tend to have. i just don't get the thirsty feeling a lot, so i tend to forget to drink lots of water. this is the first thing i try doing when i get headaches.

    lack of sleep.

    too much sleep.

    stress.

    unbalanced diet.

    an upcoming flue.

toxins that you are exposed to, but don't know about.

too much TV or computer time...

    Re: Headaches

The first thing to figure out is what *type* of headache it is -- a migraine is mostly in the temples and will 'thump' with your heartbeat (alltho it can be 'bigger' and broader than that).

tension headahces, clusters -- they're all different and can be caused by different things -- if you are having this many headaches honestly you need to be seen by a doctor.  They can be truly dangerous.

My favorite remedy is peppermint oil -- like from a health store.  You can rub just a drop in where it hurts and will often diminish it without having to take anything (and you can carry it with you all the time). Really easy.

Figure out what's different about the past few weeks while you're having them -- more stress?  change in weather?  new habit?

At one point in college I was plagued by horrid headaches -- and a co-worker pointed out to me that every day after I came back from lunch I used to have M&Ms or Jolly Ranchers or something (my throat would get dry sitting at work) -- I cut out the sugar and the headaches stopped!

    Re: Headaches

I have had sinus headaches for days.  If your weather is changing, this might be part of the problem. Describe whre it hurts; we might be able to tell you what kind you have.

    Re: Headaches

You might be out of alignment somewhere that's causing a compensation, stressing a nerve that gives you the headaches.  It might be worth a trip to the chiropractor to check out!  I hope you feel better soon.

    Re: Headaches

Definitely see a doctor. Something like a chiropractor or massage therapist might help, but if there's an underlying medical condition, you should really get it checked out. Not to scare you, but there are several medical conditions that have severe headaches as one of their only early warning signs.

Then again, I had a series of headaches like you're describing, went to the doctor, got an MRI, and everyone decided that I was a-okay fine Stick out tongue

    Re: Headaches

I'm a chronic headache sufferer...several types...migraine, sinus, tension and then there's the oversleep/dehydration headache too.

I try to eat several small meals or snacks throughout the day, drink loads of water and stick to one particular sleeping pattern.  That helps out a bit.

Also lately the new format has been giving me all sorts of eye strain related headaches.  Sometimes I just have to walk away from the computer.

I had to read this line three times because I misread it twice - I thought you said you ate several meatballs throughout the day.  Really need to clean those glasses. Smile I feel for you guys - I have absolutely never had a headache.

Sounds just like my migraines. And since I discovered that they're food triggered, I've been able to avoid the foods completely and therefore the headaches. Since you're having them so often, I suggest you keep a log of everything you eat and log your headaches, too. Hormonal changes (like menopause) can bring on food-related migraines. I also get a stiff neck with the headaches sometimes.

I found out I can't eat chocolate, avacados, ripe bananas, aged cheddar cheese, oranges, grapefruits, MSG, Sodium Nitrate (in bacon and other cured meats). If you eat any of these, they may be the culprit.

    Re: Headaches

Carla is ABSOLUTELY right -- and every single person's food triggers can be completely and wacko "unique".  For me it's "too much" caffeine (more than one cup of coffee in the morning), coffee and NUTRASWEET!!!  (and a bunch of the same ones as Carla)

In fact, you can take a "little" of any of those and put it on the wrong day of my cycle and it = headche!!  Another day it's no problem!!  The week before and the week after tend to be the 'worst'.

Nutrasweet is horrible for me -- and I can't taste it so if I wind up with a diet drink by mistake I'm screwed!!

In fact, I went for years not knowing that my migraines were truly "migraines" -- I thot they were 'just' headaches.  UNTIL they got worse.

The phases of the moon can also add to the effects -- and no, that's not just "an old wives' tale" -- think about it.  We're like 95% water ........ and the moon's pull on gravity is SO strong that daily it completely manipulates the seas and oceans and the "tides" -- So if the moon's pull is strong enough to alter that enormous quantity of water, then how much more is it gonna affect lil old me???

Particularly if it is migraines, you may honestly want to try a topical -- it's better than ripping your liver out with pills.

Just out of curiosity, what about Sodium Nitrite?  I have to avoid that like the plague.  I haven't had a hotdog in several decades.

I don't know specifically, but it's used in pesticides.

Sodium Nitrite and Nitrate are used as stabilizers.  They help to preserve things.  Either way I avoid most preservatives.

    Re: Headaches

Oh, I see what you were asking now. Yeah, they're very close chemically, so to me, they're the same thing. I wasn't sure what your question was about . Yes, I have to avoid them both. I can eat 1.5 pieces of bacon without getting a headache (although I never eat it anymore) and 2 grapefruit sections, but ONE chocolate chip (dark, milk or white) will put me in bed the next day. LOL One chunk of avocado puts me down.

I got some bananas (before I know about ripe bananas) once and as they started getting old, I ate one or 2 a day for like 3 days! I was in HELL! And I didn't know why. I finally looked it up. Regular bananas are fine, but if they start to get a little ripe, watch out! It's so weird.
