    HELP!..puppy peeing in crate!!!

I am at my wits end and I don't know what to do!!!!  Please respond with any advice you can think of.

    The Situation:
Morrison (GSP, 6 mo) pees in his crate every time we leave him for more than a couple of hours.  It's not just a little dribble but puddles.  The crate is wire and has a divider panel so it fits and grows with him.  Somehow he manages to get the pee outside his crate and he is covered in it.  I have removed anything absorbent.  I have tried treating the crate with DAP.  He gets stuffed toys to work on and he actually pees on them.
My husband travels and I work full time.  I come home at lunch to let him out and on days that I can't a dog walker comes in for him.  At six months he should be able to go more than 4 hours without peeing but he doesn't.

I am so desperate that I am starting to wonder if I just can't care for him - the very thought brings me to tears.  [:(]   I am working very hard not to loose my patience in his presence so my husband is bearing the brunt of this.  The daily cleaning alone is extremely frustrating but the biggest problem is that he is not a happy puppy.

Please respond with any hints that you have - I'm getting really desperate and don't know who to turn to.

I assume that he doesn't pee this often when you are home?  If not, you may be dealing with some separation anxiety and there are ways to deal with that.

One of my ridgebacks did that for about a year and a half. At the time I thought it was a housetraining issue, but in hindsight it was definitely SA. No fixing that but with time and confidence building.

    RE: HELP!..puppy peeing in crate!!!

You're not giving us the whole situation. Does he pee in his create every day, or just days that you leave him in there for more than 3-4 hours? When you're home, does he want out more often than he should need to go? After going outside and peeing, does he come in and have accidents shortly after? Has he been doing this since he was a puppy or is it a newer behavior?

I had a Doberman who had a similar problem. He had it since he was born(the breeder just never noticed). He'd pee in his crate every single day. I'd take him outside, he'd pee, we'd go back in and he'd pee right away. As he got older we found out he had a bladder infection(after my vet reluctantly deciding to take a urine sample, no longer at that vet because of her) but after that was taken care of he was still having accidents. At 8 months he could not hold it all day in his pen. He was finally diagnosed with Pelvic Bladder, his bladder was up between his pelvic bones so he couldn't hold as much urine in his bladder as a normal dog.

Your dog could have a bladder infection, or he could have ;Pelvic Bladder, or it could be Seperation anxiety like the other posters said. That depends on what your answers to my questions are.

    RE: HELP!..puppy peeing in crate!!!

    Hi Shiva,
there have been some recent days that he didn't pee in his crate so it might be getting better.  He pees in there within 3-4 hours but when we are home he only has to go out after 6 hours.  He hasn't had an accident in many weeks and he is just 6 mo old so housetraining in general is going well.
When he was neutred a few weeks ago we asked the vet to check on his bladder and surrounding area due to this problem.  She couldn't find anything abnormal.   he has been doing this for a couple of months now.
Using some of the SA techniques provided here and elsewhere we are "disengaging" him from me so that he isn't so attached (it's probably harder on me).  We have also moved his crate out of the bedroom.  Hopefully these things will continue to improve the situation.
Thanks for all your responses and interest in helping us out!
