Remember me? Bella's in pain - help!

Our 2 year old border collie mix, Bella, went to daycare for 10 hours today (not out of the ordinary, she usually goes once a week). She had a bath and played & hung out with us for an hour or so. Then she visited with our guests for about 10 minutes, and then she went in her crate for 2 hours. When she was let out, she trotted out and yipped. By the time she got outside, she was practically "screaming" in pain. She didn't want to be touched, and her back leg was totally tucked up underneath her.

I called the e-vet, and she said to give it half an hour and then come in if she was still in pain.

Right now, she is just standing with her head down, tail tucked. She has some weight on her leg but is definitely favoring it.

Think it's just a leg cramp? What can I do for her?

Aww, poor Bella.  Hopefully by now she's doing okay and it was just a leg cramp.  Something similar happened with my younger lab and it really scared me.  In our case, the pain/limping seemed to disappear after a few minutes.  I hope it's nothing more serious than a leg cramp for Bella too.

Hi, guys! Thanks for the concern.  We went to the vet Wednesday morning because she still wasn't better. Got some non-steroidal anti-inflammatories to give her.  She is better but not well. She'll still cramp up if she gets up after being inactive for a while (like after overnight, or if we leave her alone to go to work).  We're supposed to be keeping her moving, but that's difficult when you're not there for a couple of hours at a time.

She seems fine when we go on short, quiet walks, though she slightly favors the leg.  And every once in a while she'll just start shaking all over. I think she's so tense that all her muscles get sore after a while. It's sad, but kind of sweet, when this happens, she looks around for me and then crawls in my lap with a "make it better, mom" look on her face.  If I massage her a bit, the shaking stops.

She's going back to the vet on Monday after she finishes her pills, so I hope she's better by then. :(

I wonder if accupuncture might help release some of the tension built up in her muscles. What did the vet diagnose as the problem?  Muscle, tendon, joint, nerve?

BTW- SSOOOO nice to see you on here again.  I love your dogs.  Give Bella an extra smoochy kiss from us.  (And, of course, Roscoe too, since he's the original and cannot be ignored!)

    YAY! Jen's back!!! :)

I'm Soooo sorry to hear about Bella, though. Does it seem like a muscle thing for sure? Or do they not know?

She'll be in my thoughts and prayers, hope she's back to 100% soon.

Give *all* the furry-monsters some love for me and I hope to see more of ya, Jen!
