dog is losing sense of smell

My dog is sick and is under Vet care.  However, I believe that he has also lost his sense of smell.  So finding something that I can feed him is a problem.  Does anyone know how to make the food smell better, yet is gentle on the stomach?  He is on Prednisone, so he is hungry and will wolf down chicken and rice.  But, that's it.  I'd like him to eat a little dog food in there.  And, the dog food I am trying to get him to eat, is food he normally loved.  Canned duck.  Any ideas?

I had this problem with my beardie when he lost his sense of smell (and the poor guy was on prednisone, too).  What I did was warm up his food just a little - that made the smell stronger and he'd eat.  Maybe if you serve his chicken and rice warm(or whatever you want to add), then stir it into his dog food, he'll like it better.

I know that warming up the food, even just a little bit, really makes it more aromatic and probably tastes better too.  Could you heat up some veggie or chicken broth and pour a little over the food?

Try Solid Gold's Green Cow Tripe.  It has a very strong smell and dog's love it.

It is possible that you can boost the sense of smell with Cholodin.

I can verify that green tripe has a very strong smell. [:'(]

    But Rupert loves it!

One of my dogs is a very picky eater. He has decided to hate his regular kibble. But if I put something else (chicken, hanburg, both boiled) in the bowl too and mix it with the kibble, he scarfs it down. I also have some chicken broth that has no salt in it which I bought a supermarket. Hope this helps.
