It is SO important to make sure the company has your dogs info on file. My ex MIL's sweet lab got lost once, ended up at a high kill shelter. She's chipped, but guess what? The vet NEVER sent in her paperwork! You have to ride everyone involved for the sake of your pooch.
edited to say: MIL found her, thank goodness. She was hysterical (Buttercup and Mary, actually!)
