Do they make a lower protein food for cats?

I am asking for a friend.  He cat, Chloe, has been throwing up after she eats.  So my friend took her in to the vet.  The vet says it could be a protein issue (needing less of it), so she suggested Hills Prescription z/d.

So, Chloe hasn't thrown up since starting the new food, however my friend's financial situation right now will not allow her to spend this much on cat food all the time.  Is there anything else out there comparable to the Hills that I could suggest?

    Thanks!

The thing about Z/D is that it's hypoallergenic. It could be a protein allergy, more than a too much protein issue. I'd suggest something like Natural Balance Limited Ingredients Diets. Z/D feline low allergen diet has 33% protein, and 16% fat, on a dry matter basis. It's ridiculously digestible (because it's literally the only kibble Emma's done well on, long term, she's been on it since March). The Natural Balance kitty allergy diets have 30% protein, and 12% fat, as fed. It's roughly the same. I'd probably start with the duck, since she's probably eaten salmon and chicken before.

Thanks.  If I'm thinking correctly, she is allergic to salmon, so maybe the duck might work.

Unless this cat has some very unusual problem.........please do not decrease protein.  If anything.......increase the protein and greatly decrease the carbs.  It's more likely that the cat has an issue with that particular protein source and switching would do the trick.  Cats are obligate carnivores....they NEED protein, fat and little else.  Hopefully the duck will do the trick.

Generally speaking wet food is much better for cats than dry.  I know it's more costly but even a couple cans a week will help.  I suppose too, you could use it as a topper on kibble....add a little water and the cats hydration would be helped.  Cats have a very poor thirst drive.  Getting water from their food is the most natural thing for them.

Animals, it is their world too!

Thanks to both of you.  I will pass this info on to my friend!
