Gorgeous Lanseer in Ozark Missouri (shadowsgin)

We found out about a Landseer in Ozark Missouri yesterday.   He is 5, he is neutered, has had all shots.  He is under the watchful eye of a rescue but they did not have large enough facities for this 150lb boy.  He is currently being boarded at a Vet clinic.  We were so tempted as we have always wanted a Newf.  Because we have Hot Shot, 4 years old, 150 lb Berner, we weighed all the pros and cons and couldnt get past the fact that there would need to be a dominant male and we could not chance a set back with Hot Shot.  He was from an abusive home and it has taken us over a year to get him to the point he is now.   2 older 150 lb dogs may have worked but we just couldnt take the chance that either would get hurt or be unhappy.

With permission from the lady at the rescue here is what I know of his story.

Sampson is beautiful, his former owners were older I was told, a couple, the man was large and had no problem but the woman was intimidated by his size.   This boy needs a forever home that has experience with handling a dog of his size.  I wish it had been mine but after much thought it could not be.   They are trying to get him with a Newf Rescue but in the mean time he is in a boarding kennel.  Not a ideal place for such a large boy.  He needs large fenced yard and needs to be allow inside.  He has been around other dogs and doesnt pay any attention to the barking at the kennel.  A behavorist has checked him out and found no sign of agression.  I dont know if he has been around children but typically a Newf would be good with children however; due to his size and age I would think they would need to be older children.

he can be seen at Petfinder http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=14678612

    Good luck Sampson....

Sampson has been adopted!  A family in Colorado with Newfs is adding him to there pack!  They are a good family and have adopted Newfs in trouble in the past.  They are trying to arrange transport now.  He may be at his forever home by the end of this week!!

    Good luck Sampson!!!!

Sampson arrived at his forever home Wednesday night.  His new forever family is very excited about him being there and cant wait to start his training.  They said he is a sweetie but is one of the strongest newfs they have ever been around.  He definately needs some leash training.

Yay!!!!  I'm so glad he found a good home.

I love the look of a newf.  Never met one in person, but they are gorgeous dogs.

Me too!  The family that took him is an older couple that have lots of room and lots of heart.  The Mr. in the family is a retired K-9 Trainer and he was so excited.  He said that this was the sweetest boy ever but he said in his 25 years of training dogs he didnt think he had ever seen such a strong boy!   This was enough to tell me that Sampson is with the right family.  We would have loved him and treated him well he would have been spoiled most likely but with my hubby's disabilities, he may not have been able to train him the way it sounds like he needed.  They will be letting us know about his progress from time to time.  She said he was in bad need of a bath and a brush!
