    I think the Dane would be easier;

    Not sure why Janice.....but I was talking about the fact that you have to be so selective about the ingredients for Jessie.....that is hard.  If you had to make so much more of it...it just is harder.   I could afford a lot of things if I didn't have such a big dog.

      That's true. And, I knew what you meant; I was just venting a little. (sigh) I do expect she will improve again on this test since she's on a lower fat diet. I read your update about Gibby and I'm glad that he's been doing better.

      Lori; Less fiber is supposed to make it easier for a dog with pancreatitis to digest the food.

    Oh yeah, now I see what you are saying--fiber can be hard to digest.

      Thanks Dyan. I know what you mean. On the positive side though, Jessie's last test was the first time she tested in the "gray" area; not normal but not pancreatitis. I'm thankful that my vet has been vigilant in doing blood tests to make sure she is healing. Her cough seems to be getting better the past few days too. But, the worrying wears on me sometimes and the support here means so much.

      The diet Monica did for Jessie only has about 3 grams of fiber, and I was worried that it wasn't enough until I looked at some of the Rx foods. For example, Jessie would get about 2 grams of fiber on Purina EN. Is it different for an IBD dog like Willow?

    I'm not sure how much is in the canned z/d itself.  But, she cannot have it alone.  In fact either dry or canned alone causes her issues.  But, with added fiber she does fine.  Recently, she's having some slight weakness and I have to add the fiber so she doesn't strain too.  It's insanity the combo of foods and the stuff I add has to be just so, too much or too little and she's having problems.  I try to imagine if she had another owner them doing this. . .

      She's so lucky that you're taking care of her. What you've learned has also been very helpful to people who come here looking for help with their dogs that have digestive issues too. Give her some lovin' for me.

    Re: Jessie has pancreatitis

       The vet called today with the test results and it's went from 337 to 483. Sad   Pancreatitis is 400 and higher. She still acts fine; normal stools and great appetite. He doesn't know why the results are worse; they should be better on the cooked diet. I gave him a copy of the diet when she had blood drawn last week for the test and he said it's an excellent diet for pancreatitis. The internist he tried to call a few weeks ago didn't call back. He tried to call her again today and he said he will call everyday until she replies. He wants to know if there's anything else he can do and if it's time to refer Jessie to her. She's at the same vet teaching school where I take Jessie to see a dermatologist. I have also e-mailed Monica and asked if an allergic reaction to the cooked diet could inflame her pancreas. She had an ear infection a week after I started changing her to the cooked diet. I finished the treatment and she's still scratching her ear. She's also been scooting and she hasn't done that for awhile. On the plus side, her cough is much better after finishing the Clavamox. I'll keep you updated on what the internist and Monica say.

     Oh, no! I hope poor Jessie doesn't have to do another diet change. Allergies are SUCH a pain!!!

    Aww Janice, that's too bad.  It's not like you just decided to take her to KFC or something.  *sigh*  Inflammation GO away!!  *hugs* to you!

    Oh, shoot. . .at least she's still feeling OK though.

    Janice, I was looking at this site.  You might already know about it.

    Re: Jessie has pancreatitis

     Thanks everyone; thanks for the link Lori. The worry is that her enzymes will continue to go up and she'll start showing symptoms. The cooked diet should have made her better unless there's something the vet missed. He may do another ultrasound to look for a mass or abscess; the one 3 months ago didn't show any. A reaction to the turkey in her diet may explain why she improved on the z/d but got worse on the cooked diet. I really hope it's that and not something else. I'm joining a yahoo group for owners of dogs with pancreatitis to see if I can learn anything that will help.

    Re: Jessie has pancreatitis

    Is she taking any steroid type drugs for her skin, even just the topical kind?  It's read on that link I posted they can make pancreatitis issues worse. And, you wouldn't think they were a big deal but apparently they are because they wouldn't allow Willow any topical steroids while on the oral kind, said it would be too much.
