As long as you're sensible about it, and get them used to it gradually (JUST like with a human), Chinese Cresteds are perfectly fine in the sun. Ena is slate, and can take a LOT more sun than my fair skin. I don't keep her out for that long, though. She has a lovely tan, and I wouldn't dream of keeping her covered up.

High maintenance, people say they're hard to train (I haven't had a problem, but I adore PITA dogs).... Really active. Weird personalities. They're primitive, so socialization is a must. I adore them, though. I think I've probably found "my" breed.

  Re: Breeds That Aren't For You Reply Contact So specifically on looks, I will never own: toy breeds, german shepherds, english bulldogs, most terriers I will also probably never own a long haired breed or one that requires anything more than minimal grooming. hahaha. I LOVE so many long haired breeds, bernese mountain dogs, great pyrenees, newfoundlands, old english sheepdogs. I will also probably never own a super high energy breed. That is just personal preference. I love to pet other people's dogs of ^ those breeds.     Stacey.

Overly-drooly breeds....I don't mind doggie-kisses, but I like my hair to look semi-normal after I let my dogs lick my face - not like a 2 year old got into the hair jell in my sleep...LOL....they're really cool dogs, but not for me!   Re: Breeds That Aren't For You Reply Contact  This is pretty easy:  anything in the toy group is too small and I don't like their personalities as a general rule   I can't think of a single breed in the sporting group I'd own, either, again mostly due to personalities and also the coats are not my thing.  They have that oilier odor I don't like. Other than the tibetan terrier, I'm not into the non-sporting group.  I'm not into any of the hounds or herding dogs under say, 20" at the shoulder, mostly because I like large dogs.  I do like the rest of them though.  I'm not into GSDs or the shepherds (BCs, the belgian breeds) but I do like the briards and to some extent, the bouviers.    If you love your dog, leash your dog!

  Re: Breeds That Aren't For You Reply Contact Most herding dogs- I don't like nipping, barking and shedding. Hounds- Their bark (the hound baying) and how often they use that bark really gets to me. Pit Bulls- I really liked them until I started working with them at animal shelters. I found that they're not for me at all because of how strong they are and how rough they do everything. It hurts when they wag your tail against you! lol I also can't deal with the dog aggression. American Eskimos- I haven't met one that wasn't aggressive or a little squirrely. Cocker Spaniels- The ones that I've known have been way too high strung for me.

I have dealt with a lot of different dogs in my life and I: Wouldn't want to groom a Newfie Don't care for the snuffly, flat nosed breeds of any size Don't understand a terrier's drive, making it hard for me to train one I myself, can be a little rough and for that reason the smaller dogs aren't as much fun. You see, it's about me and my laziness and inflexibility and not about the breed.

Me, too :)  I do love my weim.  They are a ton of work, but it's the breed I'll have forever... God help me!! lol Weims and JRT/PRT's, I think i'm crazy. Coated breeds are out for me, too much hair. Super drooly dogs are out, tiny toy breeds (just too small!), giant breeds over 120... i'm fairly picky I'm realizing.  Not big into herding dogs, either I love to admire YOUR dogs in the above mentioned groups, I love all dogs. Shar Pei are actually one of my favorite breeds, it's just really funny the way you described them. I love their wrinkles, hippo snouts, tiny ears and curly tails. It's amazing how opinions can be so different!

  Re: Breeds That Aren't For You Reply Contact Without hesitation, I'll say poodles and Irish wolfhounds, and any other dog bred to hunt wolves. Why? Because I admire wolves like no other and Memory is the love of my life. I look at an Irish wolfhound and even though I know that they're no longer used for such atrocities, I still can't help but think of it. Oh, and poodles because I just don't like the way the look. They're adorable and friendly (from my experience, at least!), but I'm just not a "poodle person".

  Re: Breeds That Aren't For You Reply Contact No pitts, I do not need the public relations nightmares.  No beagles I do not find the thought of living with the Energizer Bunny fun. No Pekes, that face and breathing would be a constant worry for me. I am sure Mine would end up fat. No Terriers, again the yapping energizer bunny action would wear on me fast.  And the typical aggressive attitudes most terriers maintain would be too much. No giants, I do not want to spend a king's randsome to own a dog who will have a shorter life span than I am accustomed to. No curly coat labs, it just looks weird to my eye.  No Brittanys they look unfinished as if they lost their tail in a door.  No Bull dogs, as cute as they are as pups I will not have abreed that can not breed and whelp by themselves. No excessive shedding coats, so if you have long or longish hair and shed like a sun of a gun no need to apply.  Other than these I am pretty cool with dogs... lol I know what a picky snot. My No-No list : Boxers - Bulldogs - Frenchies - Bostons -- I don't like weezy-dogs. Pekes - Goldens - Newfies - Great Pyr's - Bearded's - Old English Seepdogs -- No heavy sheders or dogs that require lots of brushing Poodles - Schnauzers -- Just not my style.  I'm currently in love with mutts. Please, someone, explain this to my Dad who loves registered dogs(the exception for the rule is Taz). Meg
