Toby has gone home.
For the past 8 months I have had the honor to have in my home a 13 or 14 yr old Yorkie. I named him Toby. He was living on the street. His only crime was getting old. He was blind, deaf, stiff with arthritis. He was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and liver disease shortly after I took him in.
For the passed 8mos Toby has seen his vet and his groomer regularly. He ate fresh, healthful food instead of something from a torn garbage bag. He loved going for rides. He couldn't see, and couldn't run, but he knew he was on the move. He got so energized after his outings. Toby was now safe in his very large, very safe, very own backyard. Toby also had family.... another Yorkie, a Tzu and a Pom. And don't forget the lifelong supply of hugs and cuddles.
I will miss him. I hope I gave him all he needed.
His stiff little legs are in pain no more. The swelling in his liver has stopped. His tiny little lungs breathed so gently, as off to sleep he dropped.
His blind little eyes knew the way, and his deaf little ears know the words I would say. “I’m proud of you buddy, a job well done”, and I promised to stay by his side. I kissed his head and held him to my heart. Then my little one died.
If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I would climb right up to heaven and bring you home again.
