    Drinking fountain

Do cats really drink more from these so called fountains than from regular water bowls?  I have a regular water bowl and I barely see my cat drink from it, he does get wet food but he's still suffering from crystals.  I've tried adding salt to his food and mixing in extra water but he hates soupy food and will rather eat dry kibble.  People who have a similar problem please share your solutions.

I have no experience with this, but  every time I pour new water into the dish, Peaches comes running. She loves the moving water.

    Re: Drinking fountain

I've been using the Petmate fountain for a few years now (on my second one).  They love it!  The running water is much better IMO.  Its got a filtering system which is supposed to help purify the water.  The filter needs to be changed every 6 weeks for 1 cat (more frequently for multiple cats).

Its a bit of a pain to clean, but its well worth it.

My cats also enjoy drinking from a running faucet.  Smile

Mine do!  Even the dogs prefer it!  I have a Petmate also and take the thing completely apart and everything but the filter cleans nicely in the top shelf of the dishwasher.  I'd recommend changing the filter once a month, mine tends to look yukky at that point even with weekly rinsing when I wash the unit.

Yes. The fountains are great. I made ours from a pump bought at the local hardware store, some tubing and some rocks. Bailey (RIP) LOVED the running water. I had to clean the filter every few weeks but it was worth it.

Thanks for the idea 4IC!  I think that's what I'll do, just a regular aquarium pump, I have a lot of those!
