Other than AKC, UKC, and APDT...

What other venues can someone trial their dogs for Obedience (and/or Rally)?

AKC has a whopping 9 trials in my area for the next 12 months!  UKC and APDT have ZERO.  What events do people trial in other than the above?  Thanks!!

You could always get a BH in Schutzhund.  ;)  It's just a basic obedience and temperament test.

Gracie already has her BH in both USA SchH and the new AKC Working Dog Sport - although for some dumb reason AKC isn't putting any of the WDS titles on the dogs' records.  I have a message in on that already.

I forgot about AMBOR.  That would give Jada a chance, too.

Seems AMBOR is still deciding what it will do for Obedience... http://www.ambor.us/obedience.htm

I think because this is supposed to be FUN, not just for competition's sake.  If you read the rules for the Grab Bag, for example, it says that handlers waving arms and begging their dog to do the task should be "laughed at".  I'm betting that whoever dreamed this up wanted to provide a venue for the average dog lover to be able to have some fun competing and enjoying time with their dog in a friendly environment.  Not to take away from the accomplishments of OTCH dogs, but to be honest, the reason most people who don't do obedience don't do it isn't because they couldn't.  It's because of the atmosphere.  Not exactly welcoming, somewhat catty, and often worse.  I hear people slamming each other, the dogs, the judges, etc.  Not becoming, and a real turn off to newbies.

Well I can see having trick competitions for fun or whatever. I can't help but find it a bit jokey that APDT and now this org offers titles to dogs who aren't even trained enough to perform without being given treats. If they can't get their dogs to perform without food, perhaps the reason they don't do other venues really IS because they can't ;)

Do you compete in competition OB? Jag just finished his CD and people I didn't even know came up to tell me what a nice job we did. There are always a couple people in any crowd who can be jerks but IME OB trial people can't be generalized as the nasty, anything to win types you are making them out to be.

You can also compete in performance events in ASCA with any breed or mix.
