    Get off that table!!!!

Is there anyway to keep my cats (3 of them) off the kitchen table? Everytime I come home, at least 1 of them is curled up on it...the hair it driving me crazy! Not to mentions where their paws have been (litter box) and then on my table where I eat. I'm constantly cleaning this table...help!

Have you tried a water bottle?  Works like a charm in my house.  And eventually just the sight of the bottle will ward off bad behavior.  Start off by saying whatever word you use (down, off, whatever).  Give'em a spray then praise when they get down.  They will be miffed of course, but still praise.   You might have to do that a few times.  Then start leaving the water bottle on the table for a while...maybe they will be weary of getting on the table again.

    Good luck!

Try some chili powder, sprinkle a little bit on the table and when the cats jump up they will get it on their paws, their lick it off and most likely jump down. They will begin to understand the the table = hot stuff and will want to avoid it. It might take only once, or a couple of times but I heard it works like a charm.

I have personaly never tried it because our cats eat on the table (we don't eat on the same one) so it hasn't been a problem with us. Good luck and let us know what works!

Cats like to be up high. Maybe provide an alternative for them to go on?

My cats eat their food on the counter (otherwise the dog gets it). They are allowed on the table, but know to get down when we are eating. I don't know how they know to do it - they just do.

See, they know I don't like them on the table...because I always scoot them off. So, when I go out they lay out on it, because they know they won't get caught. Then when I walk in, if I'm really quite, I'll catch them napping up there... Super Angry

They have a high cat tree, and they have a small table of their own in the corner with their food on it, and are allowed pretty much anywhere else. I just don't like them on my table. I'm going to try the water bottle- I'll have to be pretty stealth to catch them in the act, if that fails maybe the chilli powder.

Is there any product that people can stand but cats can't?

You might not be able to catch them in the act on the table, but surely there are other bad behaviors that they demonstrate while you are aound.  Wink

After a couple of sprays of that water bottle, they won't want to be around it at all, anywhere, anytime.

Yeah, I vote for the water bottle too. It really helps. But I don't know what you should do while you are away. Good luck

    SCAT MAT....lol

    Also...

Double stick tape stuck in various places. If they do it when you are not there...your options are limited to the subterfuge methods. I also saw a VERY interesting motion tripped AIR SPRAY can thing that I am considering...like canned air...which my cats HATE....triggered to spray upon motion.

    Re: Get off that table!!!!

This might take some collecting first but a line of empty soda cans around the edge of the table would fall and make a racket and startle them if they tried to get up there.  I've used it with cans with some coins in them for a counter surfing dog and it only took once, he hated it so much he always viewed the counter and soda cans suspiciously for the rest of his life!  LOL!

I second the recommendation about the double sided tape, change the position it's in every day so they're never quite sure where it's at.  I tried that on my couch corners but the Evil Milo just moved to other areas to destroy.  I admitted defeat and left him the corners.  Confused

The cans are a good idea. never thought of that. Not sure why I didn't suggest the tape beofre. We actually use it. Sugar like to scratch on the walls and the tape that we got (In the cat section at PetSmart) is good for it. It doesn't hurt the paint or the furnature. And, it's see through so it dosen't stand out. I think it's called "No Scratch" or somthing like that. Anyways, the despenser is red.

    Re: Get off that table!!!!

When our climber was climbing the counter tops, then the tops of the cabinets & knocking my vases off at 2 or 3am, we were going nuts!  We tried the soda cans with pennies, the 2 sided tape, hadn't tried the scat mat yet because we found the Snappy Trainer at our local PetsMart.

It worked INSTANTLY!  He got so scared that he just about fell off the counter top running for his life.  That was the last time he climbed the counters.  Now, he uses his kitty tree ALL the time - like his brother!

Check it out: www.snappytrainer.com  (I'm speaking from personal experience / success.  I'm not a trainer, or sales person for the Snappy Trainer).

My cat was getting on our stove when we were at work.  I balanced some cookie sheets so that when he jumps up the cookie sheets fall, making a very loud clatter.  Seemed to do the trick.  I have also used the double sided tape on furniture legs and this may work on the table also.

I think I'd be afraid my cats would catch a paw in that snappy trainer thing.  It looks from the video like a mousetrap with a flyswatter stuck to it.
